Why does my Kenmore Dryer run but the drum doesn't spin?

My Dryer made a high-pitched screaming noise, occasionally before the drum stopped spinning. I loaded it with heavy, wet towels and blankets the other night and it just stopped. The heat works, just not the spinning drum.

Loud noises from the dryer can be upsetting. It does probably stem from the heavy load, but that is part of dryer use and sometimes cannot be avoided.

This sounds like it is the idler pulley. The belt should also be checked, but the idler is the most likely culprit. If you feel comfortable making these kinds of repairs yourself, I attached an image and a video that can help guide you through this process. The image is below and the video is here;

The idler assembly part is #691366. You can order here;

Sears Parts Direct

NOTE: Disconnect the power cord from the power source before servicing the dryer.

If you do not feel confident repairing this problem yourself, then you can have the dryer repaired at your home by a Sears technician here;

I hope this information helps bring some quiet. Thank you for using Manage My Life.
