Weedwacker head is not spinning fast enough to cut grass

I just purchased a craftsman weedwacker model 316.711200 and when I used it for the first time it is not working properly. I started it and warmed the engine per instruction but the head spins inconsistently. It didn't spin at all to start but when I switched to the edging position it did ok. I switched it back to just cut grass and it is not really functional. It is spinning but it does not cut the grass

After loooking at the shaft more closely I discovered that the drive cable running to th head was loose inside the shaft housing so the connection was inconsistent. Took it back to the store and exchanged it - new one works great.

Hello,

I am sorry to hear that you are having problems with your Weedwacker not spinning fast enough and I would like to assist you. I am wondering if you are able to hear the engine speed up when you squeeze the trigger, after the engine is warmed up and you are attempting to cut the grass? If the engine is revving up like it is supposed to, the head should definitely spin fast enough to cut the grass.

If the engine is revving up, shut it off and then ensure that the two parts of the shaft assembly are fully engaged. If the two halves are not engaged correctly, the cable that drives the head will not be engaged and the head will not turn like it should.

Please let me know if this is the case, I look forward to assisting you further.
