X-Cargo Sport 20 Car Top Carrier

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

I see there is a re stocking fee for this item so I really want to make sure it will work for my vehicle before I purchase it. I have a 2013 ford escape. I just had the ford dealer install a roof rack on it the distance between the front crossbar and rear crossbar is 24.5 inches apart and they are stationary. The crossbar itself is 2 1/4 - will the u bolt fit around that? Also there is a thicker part to the crossbar which extends 6 inches in from each side rail leaving the usable mounting space in the middle of the crossbar at 27 inches. Please let me know if you think this carrier will work for me - Thanks - Dan

Thanks for letting us know how this turned out. That carrier does have a good price. I am glad to hear that it fit.

Hi Lyle

Thanks for your help. I did take a leap of faith and just went to get the sport 20. I really liked the look and the price so I was just determined to make it work some how! It fits almost perfect the mounting plates that go between the carrier and the roof rack do overlap that 6 inch wider section of the rear crossbar by about a 1/4 to a 1/2 inch but I was able to secure the carrier very well in spite of that

Thanks so much for your help and it is very interesting also to know it is made by Thule!

I talked to the manufacturer (Thule). The manufacturer indicated that the Sport 20 will fit on a regular factory installed rack on that Ford Escape. The rack that you are describing does not sound like the factory installed rack that the Sport 20 will fit. Based on your description, the manufacturer indicated that it is doubtful that the Sport 20 carrier will fit on that rack.
