Why does my oven smoke?

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

Kenmore gas range model 790.75715893. We just got this range from a friend. When I turn on the oven, it doesn't light up immediately and when it does, it smokes and smells like burning soot. The oven is clean so I think it is a propane problem. The top burners are loud like alot of propane is coming out of them.

. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your clean oven smoking. We are here to help. Based on what you said, I suspect this range has not been converted to use lp gas. Typically you will see large yellow flames with soot in the oven, and on top. Also, you will hear a loud hiss noise. That is the main indication of a natural gas range using lp gas. The part number for the lp conversion kit is 5303286386. I recommend you have a licensed LP Gas Technician install that conversion kit. Once the range is converted and adjusted properly, the flames will be a normal size and blue. You can use the link below to do that. I hope this helps.
