Where to put Borax in front load washing machine

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

I have a Kenmore Elite front loading washing machine. I want to add 20 Mule Team Borax, but don't seem to have a spot for it in the dispenser area. I do not have the Pre-wash option. My manual says not to mix liquid and powder in the Main Wash compartment. I use liquid detergent, but the borax is powder. I called the manufacturer of 20 Mule Team Borax, and they suggested that I put a 1/2 cup in the tub before adding the clothes. Does this work, or will the borax just be rinsed out right away?

Using products like Borax can help clean, brighten and leave the clothes smelling fresh. I would recommend checking the manufacturer recommendations for your model HE washer.

The warranty may have stipulations for specific HE detergents. If there is no warranty and no specific restrictions, you can try it in the wash. I would start with a small load and check the results both in the clothes and the tub.

Sprinkle 1/4 to 1/2 cup borax into the washer tub with the dry clothes. You can add for the wash cycle or the rinse. Be sure there are no lumps that may not dissolve if you are using cold water. Borax works as a water softener and deodorizer. It has no high sudsing agents. Many homemade detergent recipes have Borax as one of the ingredients.

I hope this information helps. If further information is needed, please reply.
