by Manage My Life Last activity date:

I have a GE stackable washer - dryer... for 3 weeks, the dryer stopped working, making a loud noise. i couldnt even press the button for it to work. Now the button does work, yet it makes a loud noise. I had a neighbor whos a handyman check to see if the belt broke, but he said it was fine....Any ideas....I just cant afford to bring someone in to check it out for 100.00 dollars and then a repair charge... I am very handy myself..and hoping its something simple enough that i can do ...Please help me out.

it does turn on when i press the button, but it makes a rumbling sound and kind of a knocking , moaning...but no heat is felt when i open door..., and i smell a burning...and when i open the door and look at the back where you see something spinning , nothing is spinning....if me telling you it does go on, just not working properly , can that weed out the motor...or any other things....

Thank you for your question and for letting me assist you with your repair.

With the unit making noise and not turning on I would advise checking the safety thermostat, the start switch and the door switch. If the unit makes noise I would say check the same things as above.

Always unplug or de-energize electrical equipment before removing covers or attempting service. Be careful and wear appropriate hand protection when working around sharp metal parts

NOTE: You should only check live voltage if you are completely confident in your technical ability to safely measure it. Wear proper safety equipment (electrical safety gloves and safety goggles) when checking live voltage.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance please include more details in a reply to this entry below.

Thank you for using Manage My Life.

It would be helpful if you could provide us your complete model number. I've located a link that has a similar issue to what you're experiencing. Review this and send us your model number at your earliest convenience. I hope this helps and have a nice day
