F11 Error Code on Kenmore HE3t Washing Machine

by Manage My Life Last activity date:
December 5th, 2012

This question refers to Kenmore model# 110.49962600.

Other posts have received answers focusing on the CCU/MCU interface. They suggest removing the white CCU and checking all wire connections. The CCU is located under the top cover at the rear center.

Our machine has nothing at that location. There is a grey EC (part# 8183257) located at the front right corner behind the front panel display. If this is a later upgrade how is this unit removed? I can find nothing online that gives a step-by-step guide or illustrations.

Thanks.

Graham, You have the correct part number for the motor control board. The only bad news is the price tag of that part.

Hi John,

About 30 minutes before your reply I found a packet of green documentation inside the washer. It confirms you attachments.

So I remove the MCU and the attached images show the result ... a blown connection between one of the capacitors and the circuit board at, what looks like, fusible links. You can clealry see the smoke stain on the MCU box.

Please confirm the part# is: 8183196. Thanks.

Graham, The voltage is fine. The F11 error code usually points to the motor control board on the bottom. It is not unusually to get a error code of FDL with the F11 error code. I provide the wiring schematic and error code chart for this washer below.

Graham, The last response is to the motor control board which is located on the side of washer. Based on the first image, after the the harness is unplugged just push on the release tab and the board should come out. Then check the ECU for cold solder connections.

John,

I just checked the MCU power at both ends of the cable ... ECU and MCU. Both read 1.9VAC (I'm sure the decimal point is in the correct place). Does this indicate the ECU has, in fact, failed?

Now I'm really confused. The ECU (Electronic Control Unit) is, I believe, in the upper right front corner of this machine behind the control panel. The last answer switched the question to the MCU which is down in the lower left corner in front of the motor.

It's the ECU I need to remove. Its the grey box in the second image in my original post.

Thanks.

Graham, The motor control board comes with the plastic housing. There is a plastic hinge on the bottom and it snaps together on top. The wires need to be unplugged before it is removed. Also, unplug the washer.

Thanks for this, John

The "red" washing machine is the same as ours with the grey ECU visible in the pictures.

I've disassembled the front of the machine as illustrated plus the front cross member to completely expose the ECU. It's attached to the right-hand side front-to-rear frame but it's not clear how it comes off! Can you add a reply how to remove it? I don't want to force it.

Thanks.

Thanks for contacting

. I understand how frustrating it is having trouble with your washer displaying an error code. We are here to help. Anna did provide you a good link on this problem. The error code F11 is a communication error between the 2 circuit board. It may be the wire harness or a cold solder joint on either circuit board. The images below will help you access the circuits boards. I hope this helps.
