Condensation/rust on the back of Kenmoore Refrigerator

I purchased a Kenmoore Elite refrigerator in July of 2008. Recently, I pulled the fridge out to do some painting, and noticed a 4" x 2" well-rusted spot on the back of the fridge, with condensation surrounding the spot, rust streak down the back, and a rust stain on the floor (see images below). The fridge has had no other issues, and I can't see anything wrong from the inside. I have not taken anything apart to investigate the issue.

Anyone have an idea what the problem is? Is it something I can fix myself?

Thanks!

Thank you for the info, Ron. Do you have any idea whether the service call/repair would be covered by my 5 year limited warranty? If I don't/can't have the fridge fixed, how significant do you think this problem is?

Sorry to hear you are having a rust spot on the back of your refrigerator, I will be glad to assist you.

By looking at the pictures you provided I would say that this spot is caused by either a void in the insulation in the cabinet or the evaporator line is too close to the inner cabinet.

This would require a technician to inspect, and may not be repairable.

I hope this helps, should you need additional assistance please reply with details and I will be happy to respond.

Thanks Ron H.

Thanks for the link. In looking at the related responses, I found this one:
managemylife.com/mmh/questions/252882-condensation-rust-kenmore-pro-refridgerator-outside-mid-freezer-side

Where according to Scott D, it looks like there is no solution to the problem as it is likely a void in the insulation. Will the rust spot continue to get larger or eat through the fridge? Seems like this would greatly shorten the life of the unit. Is there any fix or replacement Sears can do?

I can understand your concern when it comes to rust on the back of the Kenmore refrigerator. Other members had a similar concern on their refrigerators, which you will see in the link provided below. Hope this information is useful while waiting on additional information.
