Oven not working..may have been a power surge

by Manage My Life Last activity date:

We have Kenmore 30'' Freestanding Electric Range - Stainless Steel -model number 790.9270. While I was cooking a casserole I heard a loud pop and the range stopped working. When I reset the breaker I kept getting an error code on the unit that did not respond to clearing by hitting the stop button. I powered off the unit for a while and then plugged it back in and still got the same error code.

Thanks for the information about your range/oven model 790.9270…, sorry you are having a problem, I will be glad to assist you.

Based on the description you have provided I suspect that the control has failed and will need to be replaced. However, this is on limited information. If you could reply with the complete model number off the range and the error code being displayed I can research and provide you with better information.

If you get to the point where you need to have a service technician diagnose and repair this failure, you can schedule service through this link:

The popping sound definitely came from the direction of the oven. The display on the screen says 9 and then Err.

When the Kenmore range stopped working while baking the casserole, I am sure that ruined your dinner.  To get the best possible answer please provide the error code and detailed information where the popping sound came from.  Just click on reply to continue the thread.
