Craftsman electric string trimmer model 138.74503

My Craftsman trimmer (model 138.74503) would not run when I squeezed the trigger. It did start to work but would stop and start. It did run for about 10 minutes and then quit all together. I found it was out of string and thought there was a safety switch that did not allow it to run without line. I filled the spool but it still will not work. The drop cord is fine as my electric mower worked fine with it. Any suggestions?

I know how frustrating it is when a product like the Craftsman trimmer will not work properly. I hope the link provided below has helpful information while waiting for an expert to respond with model number specific information.

Thanks Anna. Fortunately (or unfortunately) I bought this last January and it has a 2 year warranty. I guess I will take it back to Sears.

Thank you for your question and I understand your concern.

It should run with or without any cutting line. Based on your symptom, I suspect it could have a faulty wire connection or a faulty on/off switch. If the trimmer is less than 2 years old from the date of purchase, take the trimmer back to the store for repair or replacement.

I hope this is helpful. If I may be of further assistance as more details become available, please reply to this post.
