New water filter leaks and pops out of place on older model Kenmore.

Kenmore Model 253.53622300, ten yrs old. The water filter that Electrolux makes for this model has been modified slightly and does not properly fit into my older Kenmore. The previous water filters did. I have spoken to several people in customer service and no one seems to be aware of the issue. You can Google 'WF2CB pops out' and you will find at least a hundred people that have the same issue. I went to a Sears store and the salesman said he gets 2-3 people a week with the same issue. Frigidaire has a service bulletin RF1210 on this modification by Electrolux, and they send a service technician out to replace the water filtration housing with Part #240396002. I would like to know if Sears would do the same thing, or if they recognize the issue and have the proper solution, and if that part number for the housing has been modified to fit the newly modified water filter on the WF2CB.

Thanks Desirea, I will order that filter and see what happens. I am a bit skeptical, however, as I have called my local Kenmore parts distributor and he told me that when he pulls up that part number 9911, what comes up is the current WF2CB filter. But I will do that at your suggestion. Maybe Sears has the old ones in inventory still when none of the private parts distributors or the big box stores do, including my local Sears store.

Thank you for using ManageMyLife.com. I'm sorry to hear about the water filter issues you are experiencing with this model, I know how frustrating that is.

I pulled up the parts list for the model you provided, 253.53622300. It appears based upon your model number, the filter part number WF2CB is not the correct filter for this refrigerator. The correct part number is 9911. That could be part of the issue you are experiencing with the filter not fitting into the filter housing properly.

I did see the filter housing part number change from the original. The original part number was 240396001, which has since been changed to 240396002. However, the 9911 filter is the original filter for this fridge, as well as the filter housing you have is the original, so I wouldn't see any compatibility issues between the two, as long as you are using part number 9911 for the filter.

I have attached a link for your model of refrigerator to our website so you can see the parts breakdown, including the filter and housing. The part number shown on the dropdown parts list is the 9911.

I would suggest using the OEM filter for the model and see if that solves the leaking issue. If that doesn't solve the problem for you, I would recommend contacting Sears Home Services to see about the Service Technician. If you want to schedule a Service Tech to take a look at it for you if the filter doesn't work,

Thanks Marc. I am pretty sure that part is not what is pictured. Electrolux makes the filter, and they have modified it, with the posts (cylinders) now being half-round instead of a full round. I believe that picture just has not been updated. If you look up that part, it still corresponds with the filter WF2CB, and the old filter is not made anymore, so that if I called Sears Parts direct and ordered that, I would still get the newly modified filter, and it wouldn't fit into the old housing.

The problem your experiencing with the water filter can be concerning. I found a water filter going by your model number on Sears PartsDirect here:

[Water Filter]

. It is a different part number. Your expert will be able to help verify the correct filter and answer your question. It may take two business days for your expert to reply. I do hope that everything works out on the water filter.
