Nice Ereader

I purchased this nice thin ereader and was happy with all aspects of the unit. Wi Fi would have been nice but overall for the money, its outstanding. I plan on getting a second one as a gift for my wife

Not worth the price

I bought this item for $40. For that price it is worth it. This ereader is a very simple mechanism, it does not contain a theasaures or dictionary. Can download audio and video which work fairly well; however, there is not much memory to support the downloading of many audio and video clips. The machine freezes occasionally when using the video component. All in all, priced at $40 it is a good buy. The problem arises when you compare this machine to other similar machines on the market at the $70 price range - it does not stand up in quality. Its main function, ereading, is of lower quality and has fewer helpful characteristics than any other machine in this price range. Additionally, no machine on the market in this price range is without wifi, this is the only ereader that does not include wifi at this price. In summary, at its former price, $40, it is a handy little toy for your kids or even for some adults; at $70, it is a poor excuse of an ereader relative to every other ereader in this market segment. Can't believe anyone would buy this at this price. (Kobe ereader selling for the same price at Sears with much better ereading characteristics and includes wifi).

only for reading a book -> it´s great

<p>hi from germany, i bought in january 2012 2 readers on sale at my holidays in FL. One of this was a present, one was mine... we read every day with this readers and we are happy with it. next trip to FL comes in september :-) I ordered 2 readers again on sale for my friends here in germany, because the readers are really worth the money. this readers are great and absolute enough if you will only read...reead... read. i have actually 100 books on it and it works fine, the battery-live is also good. kind regards.</p>

The Slick 50 is a good starter e-reader

This is a good basic e-reader. The buttons took a few presses to break in but then they worked great. Without wi-fi I find the Calbre program very helpful to manage the ereader from the computer. Bought this on sale and am very pleased with it for the price.

Cheap no frills Ereader

Had this Ereader a few days now, and it performs well for what it is. No touch screen or WiFi. Buttons work well for navigation once you've used them a few times. You can listen to your music while reading, and unit played .AVI files without problems. The display is pretty good in either day or nightime reading. I got it on sale, and used some 'Ship you way' points so it only cost me $12 and is was well worth that. But don't expect more that just basic reading from it.

Fantastic Reader!

I have had mine since November and it has never given any problems. Great display and, for me, long battery life. It compares favorably to my Nook Color. I highly recommend!

Can't go wrong for this price!

I got this on sale for $29.99 and it's totally worth it. Even at $39.99 I would get it.
First of all you do get what you pay for. This doesn't have wifi or a touch screen, it's user interface is very simple (as in limited) and it's a bit slow when navigating around. That said for something that is less than $40, has a color back-lit screen and can process/play HD movies without any issues and music while you are reading a book is a winner to me. I use it to read my PDF lectures and books seem to load really easy as well with several text size options. I've watched a 1.5 hour video lecture and been reading for about 2 hours and the battery meter is still well over 50% so that is very impressive. Here is a quick pro/con breakout.

Pro:
Low Price
Movies look great
Easy to read
Comes with decent case
Great Price
Screen looks better than expected at 800×480
Play music while reading
Great battery life
Low Price

Con:
Screen isn't super bright, but what I would have expected at this price point
Navigation is a bit clunky but you get used to it
No built in speaker
doesn't play .wmv video files but that only requires a quick conversion

I would highly recommend this to anyone that doesn't mind plugging it into their computer or use the micro SD card to transfer files and only needs the basics of Movies, Music and Books/documents.

DOA - never powered up

I let the it charge up overnight and the LED was blue indicating it was charged. Unfortunately, It would never turn on. I was advised to hold the power button down until it powers up but that never worked. I returned it for a refund.

The $28 Slick 50 e-Reader is a an awesome Media Player.

For $28 I got my kids a media player that I don't have to worry about them breaking it or not. It has played every media file that I have put on it. Great for the long drives. Even though it works great as an eReader my kids hate to read so little is expected for that usage. I&quot;m extremely happy about this purchase.

A Pleasant Surprise!

I must admit, I wasn't expecting much from a unit that cost under thirty bucks. But I figured my ten-year-old would be happy just to have her own e-reader like Mommy and Daddy. It has surpassed my expectations in every way. Sure, the resolution is lower than a Kindle or Nook, and you can't use it in direct sunlight, but it does what it does just fine.

I didn't think it would be much of a video player, but it played an h.264 encoded video full screen without dropping frames. It also does a fine job as a music player, even displaying album cover art. Battery life is quite good, too -- should do just fine on those day-long car trips to Grandma's house.

In short, it's an outstanding value. Don't expect it to be a $150 piece of hardware, but you won't do better at this price point.

A simple ereader device

Great e-reader! My children love their books and watching educational videos. We love that there is no internet access and we guide their learning.

ereader

this ereader is great ... i bought it for my mother ... who finds it very easy to use... she loves the fact that she can store her pictures on it too! .. i liked that it came with a nice case for it .. most ereader do not come with the case and cases usually cost $20 or more .. so for the price of this ereader it was a very good buy! .. i only wished that they would have it in a variety of colors!

Know what you're buying.

I bought this on sale so even with the extended warranty it was under $60. It's NOT an iPad, Nook, etc. What is it? It's a cheap alternative e-reader. No wifi or 3G. My wife reads on her commute and loves it. We loaded videos for our 2 yer old to watch as we drive or eat. Not as slick as other tablets/readers but again, it was only $60. Text is sharp; screen colors are vibrant. It did have a problem recognizing the 16gb SD card; I had go with a 8gb card. It did lock up one time and has no &quot;reset&quot; button. I connected it to my computer via cable and pressed the &quot;power&quot; button and it did shut off. Powered it back up and it was fine.

Didn't like at first but now i love it!

<p>When I first recieved my e-reader i couldn't get it to connect to the computer. I found out that i had to use the USB ports in the back of my PC to get the computer to recognize it. Powering it on, after charging fully, it froze in a book and i couldn't get the menu option to pop up. I then recharged it and tried it the next day and found that you have to push the menu button twice to get the menu to pop up. I then loaded books on it using Adobe DE, that was simple. After that it started working wonderfully. I love my e-reader. Theres not alot of information online about it. But found out my samsung cell charger works with it.</p>

<li>2GB internal memory holds up to 2000 books (expandable upto 16gb??)</li>
<li>The controls are simple (except the time zone and time format of Military Time, these options cannot be changed). Its light weight and compact. Comes With a Hard Leather Cover which is nice. Makes it feel like a book.</li>
</ul>
<p>The only thing is the buttons on the side are to flush and hard to read.  If you buy one don't give up if its buggy at first my battery died down fast at first because it was on standby when i thought it was powered off. You can turn this off in the settings menu. Now it works great battery lasted me about 12hrs on and off reading didn't need to charge it for four days read 1 165page book but had to keep putting it down to do other things and left it with the screen saver disabled so i thought that was pretty good. Going to order another one for my daughter.</p>

Good reader, can't beat it for the price.

Bought this reader for my girlfriend to use, and she loves it. For the price, you won't find anything better. It is lacking in some features, such as wi-fi, but that was expected when we purchased it. Converting movies to .mpg for it to play them is a pain, but that's more of an extra than it's main function, and it won't see much use for playing movies.

Pros: Backlight is adjustable, which makes it easy to read at night. Also plays music and movies. Reads most book formats, including DRM protected Adobe files.

Cons: Hard to see in direct sunlight. Movie format conversion.
