sony BDP-S350

I read alot of reviews about different blu-ray players and decided on this sony BDP-S350. I truly enjoy this player. very easy to set-up. I have not experienced any of the delays of loading in any type of disc. has fantastic sharp and clear picture and great sound. the colors are unreal - just like you were there. no distortion or fake color. I have put in some of my old DVD's and this player - the quality of picture is very good and the load time is about the same as my other DVD players - very quickly. Then I have put in some new blu-ray disc's (lot's of them) and have not noticed any delay - runs the same. I don't know what everbody elses problem is but, I enjoy this blu-ray player - no problems here! Great player!

Save Your Money On This Product

I purchased this product with hopes of finding out what all of the "blu-ray disc" hype was about. I bought the Sony BDP-S350 directly from Sony style and was anxious to see the HD quality that has been advertised with the blu-ray disc technology. I own several HD tvs and decided to match it up with my Sony Bravia. Of course, I hadn't invested in any blu-ray discs yet so I was eager to see how it would transform my current dvd collection into a near hd quality as advertised.I immediately unpacked the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player, hooked it up and put it through my tests. My first complaint was it seem to take forever to boot up before the disc drawer would open. However, I waited patiently, eventually it opened and I put in the Transformers dvd. And to my delight it provided me with great hd picture quality. I then tried an old movie, "Get Shorty" that I recently purchased new! The results this time were quite disappointing. In fact, the picture looked more analog than digital. It resembled a tv picture using rabbit ears for an antenna.I was completely baffled as to the difference in the two picture qualities. I figured to continue my test by playing a recently recorded dvd+rw disc. I went up stairs to get the dvd+rw disc, then to my disbelief my test came to an abrupt end. The disc drawer never opened again!! The Sony BDP-S350 only blinked the message "wait". I went away for 45 minutes, came back the the "wait" message was still blinking on the face of the disc player. I called Sony tech support and for 1 solid hour, the support person tried everything in his handbook and could not get the player's disc drawer to reopen! I even packed the player and then unpacked it the next day with hopes that the player would somehow reset itself over night. No such luck!Did I have a defective machine, absolutely. However that doesn't account for its performance when it was working. I subsequently purchased a Panasonic DMR-EZ27 up conversion HDMI 1080p recorder and matched it up with my Sony Bravia. I immediately played the movie "Get Shorty" and was able to get the HD quality picture I expected to get with the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player. (Plus the Panasonic DMR-EZ27 gives me the capability to record). In conclusion, I love my Sony tvs. However my past experience with the Sony DVD recorders and now the Sony Blu-ray disc player has been quite frustrating. Who wants a Sony dvd recorder that won't record an HBO movie because it can't distinguish "protected" content from an ordinary home recording?? And as far as the "blu-ray disc hype", I've lost my inquisitiveness.I give the Sony BDP-S350 1080p Blu-ray Disc Player "1 star'. The star is for it being a Sony. Usually, I love my Sony products but MY ADVICE IS SAFE YOUR MONEY, THIS PRODUCT HAS FLAWS!

Amazing picture

Do yourself a favor, buy a blu ray player. The colors are much more vibrant, even in a non blu ray movie.

Sony BLU-RAY S350 model -NICE''

I have owned this BLU-RAY player for about 4 years now and have been very satisfied with the quality of picture that it produces. I believe BLU-RAY is the only way to enjoy movies, the picture quality is far better than a standard dvd player.Soon i will be upgrading to another sony BD player with wifi, so i hope that it will be even more enjoyable, can't wait!

Reliable and Excellent

This blu ray player by Sony is by far the best blu ray player I have own in my entire life. I use to use the PS3 to play my blu ray movies on but know with the purchase of this new player I became a new fan. I like the blue color of the player. There are many features in this player and it is quite powerful. You get your money's worth with this type of player because although it is pricey it is all worth it. I haven't had any problems whatsover.

Expensive, but works

Most people these days are moving toward the bluray trend and buying these players. Our family also jumped on and bought this bluray player and while it works great and all, it is somewhat uncessary to pay so much. Get a cheaper one if possible. This is expensive compared to others.

Sony Blu-ray Disc Player does everything that it claims.

The Sony Blu-ray Disc Player does everything that it claims. The set up and the manual could be more user friendly. The manual does not cover all the steps required for easy setup.

Great Price and value

We bought this a while back on a Black Friday ad. This has definitely been an upgrade on viewing quality although the sound seems off sometimes where the music will be much louder than the speaking. That could be a cord issue, but just doesnt seem right. Other than that, it works great and would highly recommend for the price.

It is a really easy system to hook up. The set up program only takes about a minute to do. The Blu-ray Disc player when hooked up to a HD TV and using the HDMI cables, it is hard to tell the difference between the Blu-ray Movie Disc. and a regular DVD movies Disc.

Go with Phillips Blu Ray

I have both the Sony and the Phillips Blu Ray players. The Phillips is a far better system and utilizes the 7.1 system I have. The picture is more crisp and detailed with the Phillips

Superb machine!

To tell the truth, I wasn't completely sold on Blu-ray. I'd heard the hype and was interested, but the picture I got out of my standard DVD was plenty good. Man, was I blind! I bought this with permission from K-Mart to return it if I wasn't convinced. I went to the video store and rented a few titles and went home for a week. The hook-up was almost easy (I needed HDMI cables which are NOT included). I noticed the improvement in sharpness during the FBI warning!! It wasn't far into the movie that I also noticed the colors were clearer and deeper and the detail in the shadows, never a strong point with my Epson projector, was quite a bit better. This is not subtle! We watched a couple more Blu-ray discs over the next few days and then poped in a good quality standard DVD (Terminator 3). If anything, the shock of going back to standard def was greater than my first view of Blu-ray. The Sony has been quiet and smooth running. From firts play, it's been perfectly behaved. I've heard that many Blu-ray machines take a long time to load a disc. The Sony takes a few seconds, at most. Longer than Standard DVD, but certainly not a problem. There's a faster mode available, but Sony says it increases the power consumption during the "Off" times. That's not worth the small delay to me. The remote is my biggest beef. I admit it, I'm a slob and often misplace the remote. Unfortunately, the machine won't run without it. Also, it's unlit and has too many similarly shaped buttons. Even after a few weeks, I can't reliably find the common buttons. An irritation, but not enough to downgrade a wonderful player!

Great picture quality in Blu-ray and enhanced picture quality with my standard DVD's. Older units require an on-line update to improve functionality.
