I GOT AS A GIFT FOR XMAS AND MY KID LOVES IT. HOWEVER, IT WAS GETTING DUST LIKE ALL THE GIFTS SO I USE IT AND NOT COMPLAING NOW.
I purchased the Sylvania SYNET07WICV smartbook at Kmart's black friday sale for $79.99. I wanted to use it to use it at a couple of locations where I have wirelss to do basic web access. The device failed miserably.
With an "excellent" signal from my Westell 327W wireless modem, with NO encryption, the smartbook repeatedly "failed to associate." The getting started guide referred me to their website, where there was ZERO information about this product. I called the phone number in the getting started guide, and was routed to a message stating that they were suffering from "high call volume," and then was routed to a voicemail box.
Failing to get a wireless connection, I connected to the device through an ethernet cable and brought up a web page. " SUCCESS," I muttered. I spoke too soon. I accessed a web page that had dropdown menus that were to reveal when moused over. The menus would not drop until I clicked on the link, then immediatedly disappeared. It also appears that the page continually automatically refreshed.
Next I thought I might try to open an Adobe Acrobat .pdf file, suspecting there might be a problem. There is a problem -- no way to open a .pdf file, since there is no Adobe Acrobat reader on the device. (I suspect they would have to pay Adobe to offer such a program.)
Outside of internet access, there was one useful feature -- I was able to play Solitaire.
It seemed like a nice idea -- a cheap way to get some basic internet access, but it was nearly worthless for that function.
Battery life seemed short. It appears that the charger can trickle charge the battery, but cannot actually run the smartbook. So you must have a fully charged battery whether you have access to AC or not.
I returned the device for a refund.
The best receipe keeper she has!
I bought two of these as gifts for my kids for Christmas. They are useless you cant do facebook normally it is the mobile site it don't even have a way to play any games on the web because it isnt able to download the flash players needed and you cant get any other operating system for them. Wish i would of returned them immediately. Now i waited too long and cant return them.
bought two of them for children. Internet doesn't work half the time they freeze up all kinds of problems, shouldve bought them tablets
I knew the cons of purchasing this product, but I bought it just to do a review on YouTube, I think people should know what they are buying; (a.) This is a Windows CE based device; it's simple and there is little functionality, (b.) Windows CE 7 is not the same as Windows 7; most modern and up-to-date netbooks feature Windows 7 Starter which is very similar to Windows XP Home Edition, (c.) Windows CE is mostly for devices like GPSs and Car Multimedia Systems, not for home use or taxing internet applications, (d.) look at specs; you get what you buy; $300 is going to get you a machine with a Single or Dual-core Intel or AMD processor, Windows 7 Starter or Home Premium, 240Gb or more HDD, 1Gb-2Gb of RAM whereas the $112 you spend on this thing will get you specs from the stone age. This product is only good for kids who don't want to worry about breaking an expensive product, simple students who just need something to fit into a binder or bag at school (not college students), and for people who just need the very basics. It has it's uses, just don't buy this device with the intention of always using it, go for a more expensive netbook like the Acer Aspire One.I personally have found use in this product by carrying it around in some of my school binders, for quick things, but I mainly use a $387 Dell Mini Netbook or $1397 MacBook Air for traveling and for home I use a $2191 HP Envy 14 and a $2100 Dell Precision Workstation.
Doesn't even deserve ONE star! This product is USELESS! I only wanted to access my e-mail, and I couldn't even do THAT on this DUMBbook! ALL the keys had to be pressed TWENTY TO THIRTY times before they would work! PLUS: the touchpad/mouse had to be THUMPED (not tapped lightly like a laptop or netbook SHOULD work) TWENTY TO THIRTY times as well!!! DON'T buy this product!!!!! AND: EVERYTHING was SSSSSSSSSSLLLLLLLLLLOOOOOOOOOOWWWWWWWWWW Also: do NOT bother contacting the "manufacturer", they will just take a REALLLLY long time to answer and then INSULT your intelligence by trying to blame YOU (the customer) for their FAULTY merchandise! I haven't gotten it yet...but I requested that K-Mart have UPS pick this up so that I can get a REFUND!!!
Good price great product. Looking for something quick and easy to use for searching items on web or checking email and this seems to be the perfect item. I will definately be looking to purchasing this item and enjoying its great features. Small Easy on the go Product!
This by far was nothing but a waste of money and a piece of junk, my child used it 3 good times then the screen went black and has remained that way every since, I wish I would've read the reviews ahead of time! piece of junk! dont purchase!
I GOT AS A GIFT FOR XMAS AND MY KID LOVES IT. HOWEVER, IT WAS GETTING DUST LIKE ALL THE GIFTS SO I USE IT AND NOT COMPLAING NOW.
purchased this smartbook for use at home since my husband is always on our desktop. didn't want to spend a lot on a notebook or laptop so i thought this was a great deal. until.... i got it home! it's terrible. hard to connect to internet, shuts down for no reason. not to mention it's sooo small and the keys are hard to hit unless you look for them!! i would not reccomend this product to anyone!!!
i bought this looking for a small laptop-like writing device, instead i got an over priced paper weight. there are no full functioning writing programs (like MS word, or MS works, etc.) on this thing, in fact there's pretty much no programs on this thing.
i am looking for a small laptop-like device that can fit in my bag and light to carry around. this device seems like that device but it's missing something important for my needs... a fully functioning writing processor... and every standard feature for laptops-like devices now days.
I bought this product strictly to use the internet function for social networking on a windows processor. I did not pay a lot of money for this product and did not expect it to work as quickly nor function the way my Mac does, however, I did expect it to work at least the first time I turned it on. This product is clearly poorly manufactured. I charged the smartbook for the 6 hours that the user manual suggested and upon turning it on for the first time, no mouse appeared on the screen and none of the keys on the keyboard seemed to be registering.
The only button that worked was the power button. I even tried to use the restart button as the manual suggested and not even that seemed to function the way it was designed to. I am very disappointed in my purchase and next time I'll just buy a name brand I trust even if it's sole purpose is for me to use the internet with a windows processor.
i also took it to a couple of places were wifi was free and The device failed miserably i would never buy another notebook with out a lil research first...
Im not going to say i dont recomened this product, its good for simple and a repeat simple applications. Facebook, email. But for goodness sake people you can not buy a netbook for 119.99 and expect it to be a Mac. The price barely covers manufactureing cost. Good for young kids and SIMPLE applications. Do not be angry if you buy this and it doesn't run your WOW or some other app or game. Think common since, 119.99 = Cheap.
This laptop is good for small things like traveling. The battery doesn't last long so if you are in the car plug it in to the car outlet. It is good for at hotels to check e-mail and such. You cant open big web pages because of the small ram. With the small flash memory tou want to get a SD card to put your files you arent using in.
At first glance I though it just another netbook, It not. for the price I payed it was fine. The only problem I got with is the video playback. I wish could play more formats. I put an mp4 video it only played the audio. With a netbook you can watch all sort of standard videos, play games and have a better browser.
I was expecting this computer to be slower then mine, as it is meant more for a child. However, this netbook goes way beyond the definition of slow! It takes forever to startup and once it does it takes even longer to be able to access anything. I have a very fast internet connection as we stream a lot of movies, and even with that my son was still unable to load anything with any amount of speed due to the slowness of the processor.
Pros are that it is small and perfect for a childs small hands. My son was very easily able to pound away at the keyboard without any problems. The computer is compact and light and yes very affordable, yet the price I paid does not come close to the quality it puts out. It should be even more affordable considering the speed of this.
Cons are the slowness of the processor. The look of the screen was horrible and would not download many items that are normally compatible with other computers. Could not upgrade this at all and unless you used an sd card or jump drive you really didn't have much for memory.
I do not recommend this for anyone that has a child that is somewhat profiicient with a computer. My son is 8 and this was horrible for him. Maybe a child from 3-5 years old would all I would recommend this to. It would be a good learner computer and with the cost you wouldn't have to worry about your investment if they were to break it.
this was junk i took it back for refund next day k mart was exelent !! but i could;nt get it to go on line i tried everything including going through my provider i was on the phone over a hour and then my provider said the problem was on my end DO NOT BUY THIS IS JUNK !!!
Worthless piece of junk!! You can not hook up to WIFI, tried several times and it wont do it. Contacted tech suppport after an hour they couldnt get it to work either. I am returning it and buying a tablet!!
