Clean Laundry but tired back

We purchased this washer about 3 months ago and are very pleased with it.  We are a family of 4, 2 adults and 2 active teens.  We had done quite a bit of research on front loading machines versus top loaders and the HE information.  Here is why we picked this machine and would recommend it.

1. There are issues with front loaders as far as the difference between tumbling in a front loader and agitating in the top loaders.  That is simply a personal preference.  If your laundry generally consists of soccer uniforms for a team of 12 on a daily basis then stick to a top loader.  Otherwise, a front loader will certainly do the job using less water and less detergent.

2.  The cycle options on this unit are a little more than I feel are needed.  However if you look at the samsung units they have way more than you will ever use.  When you compare the price of the different brands, whirlpool is the best bang for your buck.

3. DO YOUR RESEARCH before purchasing a front loader, it's not your mother's machine.  If you take care of your machine, use the correct detergent, clean it once a month with tablets you do have to purchase, your laundry will be very clean.  (and I mean doesn't have any scent clean.)

We are very impressed with this machine.  My back is a little tired of bending over so far to change the laundry so I would also recommend getting the pedestals.

This is a poor quality machine,

Had this machine for about four years. I have replaced the door gasket twice ($90 each), the water flow meter ($52), the door lock ($56). I had more fault codes than I can count. The washer is beeping a code as I'm writing this review. The washer needs repairs so often that I dont put the top or front covers on anymore. VERY VERY disappointed with this machine!!! Please do a web search on the Duet before you decide on your purchase.

EXASPERATING

This washer worked fairly well for about 2 years, although it did not get clothes as clean as a top-loader. Right before the three-year warranty was up (thank goodness it was under warranty), the entire drum needed to be replaced. Over the past few months, I have dealt with various permutations of the drum not filling adequately with water. The water sensor was replaced, which worked for about a month, when it started acting up again. This time, they said it was the water intake valve, and of course the part needed to be ordered, and it would take a week to get that in. They replaced that day before yesterday. My husband stayed home from work to supervise and I don't think he paid much attention, or else he believed the repair guy when he said it was working. Just tried to do a load of laundry and was incensed to again realize the clothes are slapping up against each other with about a TBS of water for a full load. DO. NOT. BUY.

Do not buy

Unit worked godo for about 2 years. 3rd year came around and loud noise started coming from machine. A few months later a SUDS andF35 error code showed so had a service man come look at it. He quoted $450 to repair. Major, major ripoff. Google F35 error code and read many more horror stories. Also, steam option doesn't really work. Good Luck

whirlpool duet dreaded f11

I purchased this machine about 4 years ago and it has run fine with very little issues. Minus the occational code that just rest itself. But a few days ago I got the dreaded f11 code. I pulled the MCU board and it was fried. Whirlpool should see this as a fire hazar but they dont and a new one from sears parts direct is $391 plus install. Be very aware of the problems these machines have do a search on f11 code on this machine before you buy...

Don't Waste Your Money

Owned this washer less than 2 years and the bearings have gone out twice. Product is poor quality and customer service from Whirlpool is even worse. I have the matching dryer also, and I've had nothing but trouble with it too. PLEASE DON"T WASTE YOUR MONEY!

HORRIBLE!!!

I bought this washer and dryer set and the washer was delivered completely broken, we had a repair man come out and he said he would need to replace the whole motor. So i requested a new washer and the same thing happened after two days of using it. I would never buy whirlpool again.

Broken after 4 years

My husband and I purchased this washer and dryer set. It worked fine for 4 years, then we got an F8 error. The repairman advised that the motherboard was fried, and the part to fix it was over $500. I expected a much longer life considering the purchase price.

Good machine

It works well and does what it is suppose to do. The machine has not broken or caused any problems yet. It is very quiet almost silent when washing. If it wasn't for the lights on it I wouldn't even know it was on. I do wish it was slightly bigger for quilts but that is not a complaint just an observation.

I am on my 2nd one in 4 years

all of a sudden after 4 years of very light use it stopped working. This is a one person household and i do two loads of laundry every two weeks. It cost almost as much to buy a new one as to fix it. Over $700

Whirlpool duet Steam Front Loading Washer

Alhtough this is a great washing machine. It has tons of problems. I am in the middle of having one fixed now. The bearings typically go bad after several months. Make sure if you get this you keep an eye out before your 1 year warranty is up since it will cost tons to fix!

Look forward to repairs.

<p>I bought my machine 2 yrs ago along with the dryer and pedestal for both. It looked amazing in the laundry room. The first 2 weeks were great. I have 3 girls, so It was perfect for washing their jeans in one load instead of 3 small ones. However around the 3rd week I had to call for service. The fabric softner wasn't working properly. They came out and replaced the compartment. About a month after that service was out again. The machine became too noisy and would stop in the middle of the loads with a F20 code. He went under the machine removed some part, changed it and told me it was fixed, Well same thing just happened again, This time the extended warranty sent out repair. The bearing is gone, tub  and some other parts need to be replaced. He stated they would come back out once the parts were delivered. About 20 mins after he leaves he calls back to say, they will replace the machine because it costs to much to fix it, I'm satisfied with that, wouldn't you? Well 2 days later the insurance calls to say they will be sending out a check for 757.00 to replace the washer.Come on the machine was more than this and lets talk about the amount for the extended warranty!!!!! Not acceptable. So now I have to repurchase a new washer, which I will have to add on the difference, taxes and pay for a new warranty. Once they replace it the old warranty is void. Then the new model is more expensive and does not match the the dryer. It's a whole new look. Don't waste your money. The machine washes your clothes great, but not worth the money lost due to repairs.Whirlpool is not about making good quality products anymore.</p>

The Whirlpool Duet is Great.

<p>I love my new washing machine.  The clothes seem cleaner and I can wash 3 loads at once.  I only need to use cold water now and my electric bill has gone done.</p>

Major repairs needed in few months

Shortly after the 1 year warranty expired the rear bearing went bad. Requires an entirely new inner and outer tub plus 6 to 8 hours labor from two repairmen to complete the repair. Whirlpool was very uncooperative. The cost to repair is nearly as much as a new washer. Other than that it was a good washer while it lasted.

Whirlpool Duet Steam Series has pros and cons

This washer is beautiful to look at. Has nice lines and is fabulous when purchased with the pedestal, which I highly recommend. The pedestal allows for no bending or straining to get the wash from one machine to the other. The washer spins clothes to almost dry allowing for less dry time, thus saves money.
The downside to this washer is simple. When adding detergent the washer dispurses fine, however when adding the liquid fabric softener the machine sends it immediately into the machine. We have tried just about everything to fix this issue without success, Short of babysitting the machine, which none of us have time for i have reverted to dryer sheets.
Purchase this machine, however DO NOT let Sears leave the residence until they have run a complete cycle. And make sure after a couple days if Sears hasn't called to check on things, call them.
