PROs: This range is a great compromise when installing wall ovens are not possible, or in the budget. I love that I can use the top oven for pizzas and quick baking/heating meals for our family of four. I also now have room to bake poultry, fish, and a couple casseroles all at the same time, reducing the time I spend in the kitchen on dinner!! CONs: The cooktop is a dust magnet, and I find myself constantly cleaning lint, etc off the top... could be because it's black that this is more noticeable.
The WG brand has not been very good for us overall, including this range. With the $$$ spent I was expecting more. the Glass top scratches way too easily. This is an average looking range and while it works at times it cooks unevenly. We have upgraded to brand now ... WG though still works though. Besides the problems above it still warms food well and bakes evenly. So though not one of our favorites - it still works.
It doesn't heat up the kitchen much, especially when baking in the top oven. It is awesome when baking at two temperatures or baking a large batch of bread or cookies.
best double oven -- well worth the investment
We were so excited to get this double oven range, and for the first year were mostly satisfied. Since then we have come to realize that there is no way to clean the spills that get between the glass panes of the oven doors, using the self-cleaning feature causes permanent discoloration of the white oven door (really attractive in my new kitchen) and the lower oven door handle has broken off several times. I'm probably looking at getting a whole new oven door, at my expense.
After much research I bought this oven on Black Friday because I needed a double oven but did not want to remodel my kitchen. I have had nothing but heartache from this machine. I had it recalibrated by a repairmen because it would burn anything that was bread. Then I tried to cook something at 425 degrees in the top oven. Once it had preheated and told me on the digital display to insert food, I put it in. The oven dropped to 380 degrees and tried to preheat to 425 degrees for the next hour. I called a repairmen again who explained the costs of repair would be half as much as a new oven! I feel for Sears because I believe Whirlpool has missed the mark on this machine. After calling Whirlpool I was told to spend 20-30 more minutes in the preheating to get better results! How is that energy efficient?
I've had this less than a week - but have already been baking in both ovens and cooking on the cooktop simultaneously. The lowest two bottom oven racks are way down near the floor - but I only bake turkey/hams, etc a few times a year - so it's just something I have to live with. The controls were a little confusing at first (I tried to use them without reading the instructions) - but they make sense to me now. It's only available in black, white and stainless steel. (Sorry stainless steel reminds me of working in the cafeteria at USF - I don't like stainless steel.) I would have preferred the color biscuit/bisque - but the black goes fine with the rest of my appliances.
I love this range! The top oven preheats within 5 minutes to a temp of 425 degrees. Absolutely amazing! I love the digital control panel. And the smooth top range has a very classy look.
After doing some research, I chose this double oven for value and the high ratings. Unfortunately, my experience was horrible. The very first time I used it I noticed a problem. The top oven was venting from the back like it should, but it was also venting from the side. My brand new cabinets had moisture accumulation on them and my countertops were hot. A repairman was sent out who had no idea what was wrong and never heard of it happening before. The side panel was also loose and instead of fixing that right then and there he had to order a screw and told me when he came back to be cooking something in the top oven so he could see where the steam was coming from. It was going to take a week to get the screw. That night I went to use the bottom oven (which was working fine) and noticed it was not preheating correctly. It took forever to go from 400 to 410 and then got stuck there (I was trying to preheat to 450). Three problems within 3-4 days of using this appliance!!! Also, the controls are HORRIBLE. You have to push them so hard the back actually moves. I could not find a way to simply add a minute to the timer, so if there were 2 minutes left and you wanted to add a minute, you had to turn the timer off and reset it. The timer has to be held in to be set so if you want to bake something for 60 minutes, you have to hold the button in until it gets to 60. Horrible, horrible design. Needless to say this unit was returned and a different model was bought. Even if this stove and oven had worked, I would have hated the controls so I'm really happy we got a defective unit and I don't have to live with this Whirlpool for the next 10-15 years (if it would have lasted that long).
The double oven is perfect for serving large meals. The built in safety reminders are great for those who multitask in the kitchen. The burners heat very quickly and evenly, with adjustable sizing on each. The extra warming circle is also nice once you have prepared sauces. Highly suggest stainless polish with anti smudge ingredient. This finish will show every finger print.
