First let me say I've been woodworking for about a year and didn't use a router as much as I could have based on the older one that was given to me being, well old. With that being said the majority of the tools I own are Dewalt but I received a gift card for Sears and needed a new router. After reading a few reviews I chose to take a flyer on this one. I've had this router for about 3 weeks now and used it for just about all of its applications. So far the router itself has worked flawlessly and has had enough power to knock through some pretty hard wood without an issue. The edge guide that is included with the package isn't the greatest and more than once has slipped and created a few slightly crooked lines. I've since abandoned it and created new jigs that have worked without issue. This is honestly the only negative thing I can say about the entire package as a whole. Some quick points: The LED system is an amazing addition and gives a great view of the work piece. The digital display is easy to read and the presets are generally right on point with the desired RPM I need for various bits. The plunge base works great and seems to lock in tightly, which has been an issue for different routers I've used in the past. Overall I'd recommend this for the weekend warriors like myself. Again I have limited experience with routers but I don't regret this purchasing decision at all. This so far has convinced me to continue to purchase craftsman products based on the quality and functionality.
I purchased this item requesting in store pick up. When i arrived to the Sears location in Palmdale CA after me notified my order was ready for pick up via text notification i waited nearly an hour just to be told my item was not in stock. The attendant said I had to return my item and attempt to order through a sales rep. The sales rep was reluctant to assist and was unable to give me same purchase prtce as my initial order online. I was then assisted by a manager who said i had to order item for delivery then once received i could return to the store to receive credit on the difference. The entire ordeal was a hassle and unnecessary inconvenience. The root cause is a broken system with online purchasing with in store pick up at this location and a lack in management ability
I bought this for the value and features. I'm a beginner at woodwork and this was perfect for my needs.
I bought this to build new window sashes for our 100+ year old house. I currently have it mounted in a router table and have yet to try the plunge base. I like the soft start feature, as well as, the ability to adjust the height from above the table. Shipping was fast with no damage to the package.
Where to start....first off this router has a powerful motor and will cut through wood smoothly. If you plan to use it in a Sears router table, the table is designed to be bolted down and you cannot remove the router or use any of the settings on the digital screen unless you unbolt the table and turn it over. When adjusting the height of the bit for table use, although there is above table adjustment you have to loosen the clamp on the router body - you then adjust the height, and then lock the clamp. The problem is when you lock the clamp the bit height changes! Bit changes from above the table are not possible, and as stated earlier, you have to unbolt the table, flip it over, set the speed on the digital screen, change the bit, bolt the table back down and then guess on setting your bit height so that it lands where you need it after re-clamping the motor to the fixed base. My router came with both arcrylic bases cracked. I contacted Sears customer service and got such a run around when trying to get the issue resolved. The router was on sale when I purchased it, but not when I received it. Customer service wanted me to return the router via mail, and just purchase another online and the new *and higher* price or drive about an hour to get to my closest sears store for an exchange - which they did not have in stock. I instead decided to just order a couple new acrylic bases, which have been on backorder now for 3 months. Not many parts are available through sears parts direct nor the other e-repair dealers. This could be such a nice router....if it weren't for all the little issues, because the motor is strong. After this experience I can't say I'm very confident on making additional tool purchases through Sears anymore.
