Many years ago I stubbornly refused to buy anything but the cheapest air filters and then some consistent advice from heat and air professionals changed my mind.
We often think little of indoor pollution. If we don't have family members with bad allergies then we only consider indoor pollution to be the trash can. There is a wealth of knowledge showing our homes are more polluted than the outdoors ! This is hard to comprehend and accept without study.
I now only buy these Filtrete High Performance air filters. Notice when you replace your filter next time at the allergen rating systems now printed on each filter. Higher numbers mean higher filtering ability. I also used to think paper would not let air flow like fiberglass which is not correct. These filters are top of the line for air quality where you live. Better filters advertise longer time frames between changes but professionals will say change them monthly regardless.
Filters come in sizes to match your needs. My last place took 24 x 24 but here we use the 20 x 20 for this homes air return access panel. Cost is roughly 15 to 20 dollars per filter. What are you worth ? This filter is greatly reccommended.
During heating season, I need to replace this filter every month as any dust contamination at all will decrease airflow enough that my furnace overheats. I've had the furnace looked at to ensure it is operating properly, and it is. The tech's in each case have shown the problem to be the Filtrete pleated filters by replacing them with different brands. This incredibly short lifespan of these filters make them cost prohibitive.
I have tried various filters and find that this works well for my condo. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
I keep my air filter cleaning machine in my bedroom and use it every night. After a while the filter gets really gray, so I know it's working. Also my husband used to have breathing problems when he went to bed and now he is breathing much easier. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
They completely changed the size and function of this filter. And it's not a good change. I need a Merv 5 for my furnace and they are tough to find. I might need to look for another brand as this 'new' style doesn't help the dust. Diasapointed.
This 600 won?t remove half of what the 1,000 micron unit will and nowhere near a third of what the 1,900 micron filter will do. Your only choice here is to keep the house as clean as possible to reduce the load on the filter system itself (The cleaner the house.. shoes off in the mud room, dogs and cats brushed outside etc..) youll give this economy filter a fighting chance. It?s defiantly a filter you?ll have to change more often to keep the particulate mater being circulated down, but at $15 it?s an affordable unit that won?t break the bank every year just on filters as you certainly will if you were to swap out the 1,900 micron filter every two to three months. Regardless, if you keep the ductwork clean and keep a cleaner household, this economy filter can get the job done, and once a year you can splurge on the 1,900 micron during allergy season. Does an excellent job of capturing dust and dander and what not hairs and whatever weird things get sucked up into the filter [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
