Good value, easy to use

One of my most researched purchases in a long time. I looked here and at ****** at treadmills with high ratings by Consumer Reports. I've learned though, in recent years, to take CU ratings and verify with actual users. That's where Sears and ****** were a big help. Two top rated treadmills by CU have really spotty records with users both here and ******. Scared me away from them. This one has the best record, even though the volume of reviews is not that significant. I need a machine that will work, and I think this is it. Also, the controls are easy to understand. There are 10 programs, which seems like few, but within each program there are from 7 to 10 difficulty levels. Program 7, "Foothills", with each level there are higher speed variations, so you can work your way up. There are also 2 User programs. Otherwise, the controls are nice and basic. You can learn to use this treadmill in ten minutes. I bought it for exercise, not a computer lesson, and I got a workout within a hour of it being set up. No steep learning curve; only a 15 degree steep hill, if I choose! The fold up mechanism is easy. Hydraulic assist is like the liftgate on your SUV. The deck locks up securely. Putting it down, you step on a release and just let if float down to the floor. I opted for an extra $45 for "installation". I think the money was well spent, because this thing is heavy. HOWEVER!!! Be aware the delivery/installers may have no knowledge of this treadmill. I asked, and they guy said, "I've set up Nordic Track. It's about the same." No, it isn't. AFG has a 4 minute setup video on their website. I recommend that you play it for the installers. It will save time and maybe damage. My installers started with the box upside down. The installation is designed cleverly with a flow. Do it right and it's easy. Do it wrong, and not so much. Twice I had to stop the installers from doing something wrong. The $45 is worth it for the muscle and for hauling away the huge box and packing materials both cardboard and wood. Just be sure you're the supervisor of the installation, and everything will be fine. Defects. Essentially none. The belt rode to the left side, but there is also a video on the AFG website for this. Really easy to adjust, and the tool is included. 2 minutes to adjust the belt. The end of the deck has wheels, as inclining the deck means the end must move forward. One of the wheels was tightened a little too much and didn't turn but rather slid. 5 seconds with a Sears Robogrip pliers to loosen and it's perfect. TV watchers, note. The front of the control panel is 56 inches. If you want to watch "walking videos" like VitaDVDs.com sells, you'll need a wall mount or really tall TV stand. I just ordered this one for my 32" TV: http://www.******.com/gp/product/B00G3Q3N18/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 Bottom line. I read many out of the box horror stories about treadmills, but this one was right.

Not much better than the rest

Had this item less than a year, lightly using it, and the motor is going out. Call the Warranty center from sears since i got the Master Protection, and they are not able to find the part, but i have to wait at least 21 days from the service date before they will decide to replace the item. Not sure you want to waste money if it breaks they cant find parts for it.

Works with some issues

|

I have had it for five years, and it got light usage. Then the motor went dead, like other reviewers reported.

The treadmill itself when functioning works fine. At least it last five years. It did have little annoying problems here and there. For example, the safety key didn't work time to time, the foul odor from the belt like other reviewers mentioned

works but, oh, the odor

|

This machine works and I like it but about 5 weeks into ownership it emitted a horrendous overwhelming foul odor. I talked to the athletic department manager at Sears and he said give it a week and see if it goes away. We called the Sears treadmill support tech and he came out and said it had an excess of grease, some of them do, it gets on the brushes, and did his best to clean it up. It still smelled although not as strong. This treadmill is in our bedroom as we have no other room suitable for sports equipment and I have regretted this purchase many times. If we air out the room with doors open to the outside & fan going it is okay but doors closed for climate-control and the room smells. This is a problem. Sears will NOT take it back because it is beyond the 60 day allowable period for returns. I'm quite burned up about this. The treadmill does work but it is not suitable to have indoors if you're at all concerned about indoor air quality. Had I known this would have such a strong odor I would not have bought it & am disappointed in Sears for not taking it back since I did come in as soon as it happened and was trying to work with tech to get it resolved.

great

The AFG Treadmill has been a great addition to our room and workout sessions. My husband and use it a few times a week if not everyday. We have been encouraged by the results and are feeling healthier and stronger. Its an easy setup and use of the machine and starting the day off or ending it with a 1/2 hour workout is a little price to pay for how well you feel. The machine has great settings for personalized workouts and depending on how strong or weak you are feeling each day. Its easy to use and safe. Its a great workout in the morning for when you are watching the morning news or weather report.
