Not enough power to fly

|

Poor power to weight ratio.
Does not lift off or fly well.
The smaller Millennium Falcon they sell is fantastic though - buy that one instead.

So much fun!

|

This thing is great! My kids and I had a blast flying this around together. The physical details are great (Han and Chewy in the cockpit) and the lights and sound effects were the icing on the cake! Definitely something that we will continue to entertain ourselves with. Word to the wise, you may need to calibrate (balance it) when you get it, but once thats done there's no stopping this thing!! Fun but....

|

We were so excited to get this. My husband and all my kids could barely wait to take it out and try it. The packaging was impressive and easy to open and remove the drone. The plastic protectors were simple to put on.

Out of the box the drone will need charged for at least an hour and 4 AA batteries are needed to work the remote. The remote was really cool, but complicated to use. One of the more useful features is that it tells you the battery life of both the remote and the drone. It has a lot of buttons for how to correct the flight pattern and the instructions were more clear on how to do this but not clear on how to get the drone started which is pretty important. Overall they could have been better and more detailed.

The drone itself is made out of a styrofoam material which makes it seem cheap but the styrofoam could be seen as an advantage because when it hits the ground it doesn't crack as easily as plastic and most likely wont do as much damage when it gets flown into the house (which it did--several times). It is a screen accurate representation of the Millennium Falcon or so I am told by my Star Wars loving family.

Flying this thing was an interesting experience. First there was trying to get it to fly which took us a good 15 minutes until a nice accidental flip of the switch flew it sidewards into my daughters chair causing some slight screaming. Once we figured out the starting it gaining control was a bit more complicated. We flew it preciously how Finn flew it in the Force Awakens-- like it had a herd of cattle strapped to the back of it. It was kind of all over the place much to our neighbors amusement and our dog's dismay. Because it is so light the slightest puff of the wind sends if off into the neighbor's fenced in yard while they aren't home and their dog barks at the invader landing in its territory and because once it falls sidewards it needs reset its kind of stuck there until you can fish it out with a stick or the neighbors come home and report your unlicensed drone to proper authorities. That kind of ends the fun adventure. Use this as a cautionary tale -- inexperienced pilots may or may not experience some rough bumps, but with some time they may be able to get it off the ground and not into other people's territory therefore ending their fun and making their neighbors hate them. It is definitely not an out of the box and fly it expertly kind of toy. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Lots of fun!

I was super excited to get this drone. Right out of the box one headlight was out and one light on the controller. You only have to add the plastic propeller covers to assemble. It was easy to figure out which one went where. The ship is made of styrofoam but is surprisingly durable. It is also really large which makes it easy to keep track of and attracts a lot of attention. I first tried to fly it in my living room just to get a feel for it but it would not take off on the carpet. I then went out to the driveway and it went up with no problem. It is a bit challenging to get it any higher than about 8 feet in the air and I also found it difficult to maneuver where I wanted it to go. The directions really aren't much help either. The sound effects are cool if you have kids which I do. I would not recommend this for anyone under 14. The propeller covers constantly fall out when you land the drone, I added a little super glue around the edge of each cover to keep them from falling out constantly. The battery life is awful. It comes with a charger to charge the drone and the controller runs on regular AA batteries. I was lucky if I got 15 minutes fly time before it needed charged again. I live near a college campus so I also took it to the football field on a slightly breezy day and it is almost impossible to fly it with any breeze, it continuously kept flipping over and flying wherever it wanted to. It did gain a lot of attention from people but it didn't last long because the battery needed charged again. I like the look of the drone and the idea but the fly time and complexity of trying to actually have it stay in the air is not what I expected. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Large and in charge- seriously, it didn't behave

|

The Star Wars Millennium Falcon XL Drone from Air Hogs was delivered in a much larger box than expected! This drone is huge! We were so excited to fly it that we didn't even let it fully charge before getting it into the air! My son, 13yr old, was first at the controls and he seemed to pick up on how to use the controller within seconds.
In the air it is, a slight breeze and now it's in the neighborhoods tree!!! After much coaxing and branch shaking it is out, undamaged -Han & Chewie are all ok!
After this mishap we took it inside to let it fully charge. Now my turn... took me few moments longer to learn the controller but I managed to get it going! No breeze but it drone is not cooperating and keeps flying in wrong direction! Oh No, another tree!! Way up there. This drone is so light that it doesn't respond well. Thank goodness it's so large that it doesn't get stuck in trees good, it seems to always just barely be hanging on. We live in the country and have a large culdesac that is treeless until you get to opposite side to the neighbors or in rear of houses. We found ourselves chasing the drone around as it was not cooperating to the controls. Is Han or Chewie really flying this craft?!? Needless to say this drone is fun while there is absolutely no wind or local trees.
Pros: Large, great shape and design, kid and adult friendly, great for outdoors
Cons: loud, needs lots of room to fly, loooses charge quickly, attractive to trees! :)
This drone was a great experience and we are still enjoying it but for the cost that we saw online for it... we feel it's way overpriced. [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]
