U.S.S. Enterprise maiden voyage

It's fun to fly, but definitely takes a little practice to master. My kids, aged 13 and 10, both are giving it a good workout! The siren sounds when you get into a little "trouble" and that is pretty cool! [This review was collected as part of a promotion.]

Warp Speed....Until It Stopped Working!

My eight-year-old daughter and thirteen-year-old son were so excited to try the remote control AirHogs Star Trek U.S.S. Enterprise by Spinmaster. Although they were not Star Trek fans, the idea of a remote control flying spaceship greatly appealed to them. Upon opening the box, we discovered that batteries were not included and that the toy needed to be charged before use. A USB cable is provided for charging purposes. However, a wall adapter is not. So, before beginning to use this item you will need four AA batteries as well as a wall adapter to plug the USB charging cable into. The toy came with a display stand that I placed the toy on when charging. The stand is not very sturdy, and the spaceship can be knocked off quite easily. The ship itself is made of styrofoam and the propellers are made of plastic. While this serves a purpose as far as keeping the toy lightweight and aerodynamic, I found it to be a bit flimsier than I expected it to be. Once the product was charged, my kids and I attempted to try flying it in the living room. We were not prepared for how fast and high this item can go. It can really soar! The controls are pretty sensitive as well. If you aren't careful at maneuvering the toy, it can easily crash into walls, ceilings and household items. We decided to take it in the backyard, and we faired much better out there. Even the slightest wind will cause the toy to drift, which nearly caused it to fly into my neighbor's yard. My eight-year-old daughter had way too much difficulty flying it due the complex controls, so she gave up on it pretty quickly. My thirteen-year-old son was completely in awe of it. So, I would say that the age recommendation of 10 and up is most likely appropriate. I would maybe even say that it is best for ages 12 and up due to the fragile nature of the product. My son was just beginning to learn the controls when the ship's charge suddenly ran out and came crashing to the ground. The charge itself only lasted about ten minutes, which wasn't very long in my opinion. I really expected a toy like that to be able to occupy the kids for longer than ten minutes. We immediate put it back on the charger and in approximately fifteen minutes, the light was indicating that the ship was fully charged. However, when we brought it back outside and tried to fly it again the ship didn't move. After several attempts of repeating this process, the spaceship works inconsistently. That being said, when it does work it is amazing! The ship flies high and fast. It's pretty impressive for a toy. My son loves the lights and sounds that go along with it, too. Our biggest issues at this point would be that the charge is too short and that the toy operates inconsistently. Also, I am not sure how long the styrofoam and plastic will hold up in the hands of a 13-year old boy who is flying this outside! I will keep everyone updated! Fun for all ages!

I have a 10 year old daughter and a 12 year old son. Both kids were excited to try the Star Trek Air Hogs! The blue lights on the toy really made it fun. The controls are kind of touchy and will take some getting used to. We have crashed it a few times, but it is made sturdy enough that it does not break. It is fun after you get the hang of the controls.
Some things to remember: This product needs 4 AA batteries which are not included. This product also needs to be charged before it can fly. I don't want you to think you can just take it out of the box and play immediately. The included USB cable make for easy charging. I really liked that part! Terrific Fun while it lasted... broke way too easily

This spaceship looks amazing right out of the box. Really cool looking, lights, sounds, a stand for it to sit on, and what seemed to be a relatively easy remote control. We read the directions, popped in 4 AA batteries and off we went into the yard. My 12 year old and I had maybe 5 whole minutes of play time, which we both spent just learning the remote- it's very touchy. One small spill into the grass and one of the propellers is now broke off, which renders it completely useless. The ship doesn't even come with replacements. It would have been absolutely perfect had it come with a few spare propellers and the ability to replace them, but it does not... there looks to be no way to replace them whatsoever. I'll be calling spinmaster in the morning to make sure, but I highly doubt it. I would not recommend this for anyone who is not already skilled with this type of flying toy.
