I have a 12 inch cast iron skillet that I absolutely love to cook with. To me, food just tastes better when fried in a nicely seasoned cast iron pan. But, a 12 inch pan is much too large for cooking a small item - for instance, a single egg for breakfast. So, I thought I'd try this set of inexpensive pans. Upon receiving, them, I was pretty impressed when pulling them out of the box. They have a good weight to them and a nice finish. My first test was an egg (notorious for sticking) in the small pan, and it came out wonderfully, even with just the factory-applied seasoning. I'm used to cast iron cooking, though... people experiencing problems with sticking may not yet have adjusted their technique. Food can stick if the pan is too hot, so you need to get the feel for the proper temperature and preheat accordingly. I've been equally satisfied with the other two pans. I took off one star because the pans are a bit oddly sized, so it can be difficult to find lids that fit well. The small one has an inside diameter of exactly 6 inches, but the medium is 7.5 inches, and the large is 9.75 inches.
I had high expectations for this item. Unfortunately, I only used the small pan once and it immediately rusted after the first usage. I DO NOT recommend this set to anyone. I still want a good cast iron set. This set was poorly manufactured. Not worth the headache. I returned it immediately back to SEARS/ K-Mart.
This cast iron set is very manageable, it sears extremely well. We use our pan set for a variety of things. It's worth the price, they usually come pre-seasoned and are easy to re-season when it comes the time to do that. Great for cooking, sauteing, toasting some bread, warming etc. It's the one pan wonder for sure. Super easy to clean doesn't require soap.
I love lodge i highly recommend for your cast iron needs. This cast iron is very manageable it sears extremely well. We use our lodge for a variety of things. Its worth its price depending on what size u get it may be a little bit more expensive but will last forever. They usually come pre seasoned but are easy to re season if it comes to that. Great for cooking, sauteing, toasting some bread, warming etc. Its the one pan wonder for sure.
I also really recommend doing some research on how to keep and maintain these pans since there is some work that goes into keeping these in pristine condition, but trust me once you switch to cast iron, you'll never use anything else!
Was looking for pans like that for a long time. My mom only cooks in them. And the price is very affordable. Heat the food evenly on an electric stovetop, where my ceramic and stainless steel pans got ruined. Very happy with the purchase.
