Our Spokane and surrounding area was hit by a vast 71 MPH wind storm that took out many thousands of electrical customers. We have a daughter on 24 hr oxygen so we needed to give her emergency care and our Briggs-Stratton 5000 watt portable generator provided power for our daughter and her oxygen machine. Our generator ran 24 hours per day for 7 days, and never missed a beat! We found this generator powered with the Briggs-Stratton engine to be very economical, quiet, and so dependable!!
Bought this unit for power outages last week. Extremely loud, louder than my Case backhoe or old Dodge diesel pickup. I have an older Honda generator of similar size that I loaned out that is at worst half as loud. Vibrates all over the place. Finally wound up strapping it down to a couple of pallets to keep it in place. Really hard to pull start. For the price I paid I would have expected electric start. Made in China. Fairly good on fuel, about a gallon per hour. Going to sell this unit and buy the much better and quieter electric start Honda 6500W for a few hundred more.
Bought in 2012 and was used 4 times during power outages each of which was only a few hours long. During the 4th use the engine speed governor failed and now the engine only runs at full wide open throttle which results in too high of an engine speed. The too high engine speed results an the output power having the wrong (too high) output frequency (higher than 60 hz) so now the generator cannot be used without costly repair.
I bought this unit a year ago before huracane Maria, and I tell you we where without power for 3 months and this baby ran like a Pro whe had my house and my neighbor plug together running for 12 hours and did the job very strong built! Thank you Briggs Stratton, now I know why you guy been for so long in the industry and on the top...
Bought this generator 7 years ago. After the first year the thing won't start without first taking it into the shop to figure out why it won't start. Save yourself the hassle and wasted time. Do your homework and buy a generator that does what it's supposed to.
