I guess you can call me strange but I like to put things to test that make claims of being "Total Protection". The first one of these I purchased was Queen sized and I washed it dried it per instructions-ish :-). I put the pad on the bed and dumped water on the bed. Not a single milimeter of the mattress was wet. The outer layer absorbed the liquid slightly but the liner layer stopped the liquid. I hung it to dry and confidently placed it back on the bed. I have since purchased a King size one which also passed the test. When Drying it does take quite a bit of time. I used Low heat, with the "Extra Dry" setting on my Samsung dryer. It was able to get it so it was only damp in areas and then I hang to dry the rest of the way. No problems with the coating being ruined in any way shape or form. Good product for only slightly more than a good quality mattress pad.
This mattress pad was amazing, absolutely the most cushy, comfortable mattress pad I've ever used. Then I washed it - according to the instructions, and the backing acted like I'd put an iron on it - it's all crumpled up and will no longer fit the bed. I've tried to gently stretch it, but it's no use. The pillowtop portion is still cushy and has a wonderful loft, but the back side got stuck to itself. I'm so disappointed because I loved it so much. I don't think I'd buy it again. If my new one doesn't live up to the comfort of this one, I may consider buying again, but I will not ever put it in the dryer. Hang dry only - should be on the instruction label.
I received the plastic packaging, but no mattress protectors. I ordered two. You would think someone would notice they were mailing an empty plastic bag.
