This grill was exceeding my expectations greatly. I was comparing this one to my previous Kenmore 4 burner which was $600. which is a lot more than this one. The grid is not as great as the previous grill but this one was just outstanding!!! i had it for a year so far, and it is such a great help. If your buying the grill just for the sear'er than i do not suggest it, since it cooks the same as the other burners. You will never need to put the heat above one on this grill which saved my gas also. All in all i am completely satisfied.
I bought this grill april of 2012. I'm not a huge bbqer and didnt use this bbq 24/7. It was covered and always kept in a enclosed porched. I went to use it this year and two the of knobs melted off. The grease pan rusted in half as did most of the inner works of the grill. I mostly use the grill for chicken cause I have charcoal grill for steak and burgers. I called charbroil and they told its pretty much too bad they said the grease cause the rust and it has to be cleaned. I told them I usually cover the grates with foil when I cook chicken so limited grease falls and they said putting foil on grates modifies the grill and voids any warranty(even though it doesn't say that in the manual). Are they kidding? They also told me the knobs melting off was due to spiders crawling in hoses. (in the middle of bbqing) I will hold chicken in my hand and set myself on fire before I buy a charbroil grill. Char Broil grills are throw away grills and the company doesn't stand by their products.
The family got this grill for my husband for his birthday 5 years ago. We grill out at least 4-5 days a week, all year long, regardless of the weather. It sits outside on our patio covered in all elements of weather. Still looks great. Just now have to replace the heat tents due to the heat and amount of grilling we do. But that is it.
I saw it on the store floor and thought it looked nice and for the size priced reasonably. But the back is open near the burners and you can look in a 3 inch gap at the back of the lid. Doesn't hold heat well unless there is zero wind. If you open the lid the wind will blow thru and about blow the burners out. I called customer service and they said to turn it a different direction. It's under a covered patio and I turned it every which way and used my old grill to block the wind. I'm either going to have to screw sheet metal on the back to cover the huge openings or buy replacement parts to replace the rusted and burnt out ones for my old Coleman grill which I never had issues with. Bought one from Sams Club 15 years ago that worked great also. Considering seeing if the store will take it back and give me credit towards a different manufacturers.
I've used it three times and I might just give it away and go buy something else. T he back of the grill is at least 200 degrees hotter than the front. Why have a searing burner when the entire back of the grill sears all the time? I bought this for the size, but I can only use the front half.
I would recommend to a friend! It's extremely large but its awesome if you plan on having a BBQ. I also like how its on wheels so you can move it to where ever you want.
