Having used this product for a long time and always having excellent results, I would just like to state a few things concerning this other users poor review for other readers to consider. First...you must choose the right strength blonding kit depending on how dark your hair is. If its like mine (dark brown) its best to go with the maxi (for even the darkest hair). You HAVE to leave it on long enough..sometimes it may appear that it is the correct lightness, but it is always best to choose a small strand that has the solution on it, and wash it off completely using a wash cloth or paper towel and shampoo it and rinse with water, and blow it dry, that way you can see the actual lightness of the hair. If its not light enough, you can leave it on longer. The "orange" color you got after toning was most likely due to the toner as you stated your hair was blonde (yellow) after the blonding process. You have to be careful when choosing toners, and its always best to put some toner on a small strand of hair underneath first to see the result before doing your whole head if you've never used the combination of blonding and toner together before. Also, its best to use a toner from the same company as your blonding for best, accurate and predictable results. I would say your undesired results was due to the toner color, perhaps you also left it on too long or not long enough! its best to consult with a clairol professional if your unsure about your results or what toner you should use. I can personally say, that as a natural dark brunette, I can go to very very light blonde with very little brassiness ( gold) from just the blonding kit alone in one application. then with the proper toner i can go to a beautiful platinum blonde with no gold, yellow, brassiness or anything. Lighten and tone is a 2 step process, not a 4 or 5 if you do it correctly! Wendy
I did a strand test on my daughters hair & it turned it a light strawberry blonde. Being no stranger to highlighting hair/coloring hair I thought with the heat from the plastic cap it may make it a bit lighter. Her hair turned blonde in front & red in the back. Not even strawberry blonde like the strand test showed. Her hair had been color treated almost a year ago to a medium brown. It tells "not recommended for color treated or gray hair" on the instructions in small print you should put this on the box not on the instructions, after the box has been opened & you can't return it !! Loreal has this info on the BOX. Don't bother asking me to call your lame help line. I already did & I was told to take her to a salon which is what I should have done in the first place instead of using your products. I won't be buying from Clairol again you just lost a long time customer! I also had to tell her hair color is medium auburn, because calico wasn't an option.
I use to use 116 nice &easy and the very lightest frost and tip neither of which any longer exists. So very disappointed in the new colours have tried 3 or 4 shades to no avail. The other formula was great now I need to look for a new product as the clairol products are not longer reliable.
I bought this product in December and used it before to go to a party. But it damaged my hair. My hair did not have a blond highlight instead it became total red. I use the same product at the end of January and it did the same thing to my hair. Also scolp of my hair became so itchy that I could had to use medication to eleminate the itch. I am not happy with your product and it was waste of my money. I have been using your products for over 20 years and this the second time that I have a problem with your product. I would not use your product again.
First time using it in hair ranging from light blonde to dark. I found the cap flimsy and was pulling bits of plastic out along with hair. The hook broke but luckily not till end. It took ages and a bit fiddly to do back but that was expected. I ended up removing cap when time was up and rinsing top where lighter and putting mixture on by hand on dark bits. Final colour was orange yellow on highlights so you must use toner or purple shampoo. After doing that very happy with colour and don't see difference between salon result and this apart from extra $200. Would recommend buying sturdy cap and metal hook.
I have used Clairol® BORN BLONDE several times in the past and have never been disappointed with the results. It seems to lighten quickly, easily and leaves the hair in good condition. I have used the kit to Pre-Lighten before using a blonde shade to get the best result and it worked great but I wish they would bring back Born Blonde Toner.
absolutely love Born Blonde! took my dark brown hair to light blonde in 30 minutes! the blonde i always wanted to be! thank you Clairol! i am a Born Blonde fan for life!
