I had a huge limb from a tree in my yard split from the tree and fall during a wind storm. At it's largest, it was around 10-11" in diameter. I had just moved recently and had not yet bought a chainsaw, nor had a need for one. I didn't want to spend "gas" money on a bigger chainsaw, and expected the electric models to not quite be up to the job. I decided to buy this, assuming when I got to the big parts I may have to go rent a gas chainsaw, but for future small jobs I would have a decent inexpensive one in this craftsman. I was shocked when it went through the biggest part of the fallen branch like butter. It was absolutely more than adequate for my emergency project. It wouldn't be big enough to take out a whole large tree, but for small to medium chainsaw needs, this thing is awesome. SO glad I bought it.
I will never buy a Craftsman electric chainsaw again! This is my second purchase, first for hurricane Wilma, now for hurricane Irma. Both had significant issues. This time I get the saw home, add oil (not included), plug it in, push the buttons and NOTHING happens. Several adults read the directions and tried, we got not even a click from it. Complete DOA. Your time is too valuable, don't waste your time on this line of chainsaws. Zero stars! FYI- last time (for Wilma) bought a saw that lasted less than 2 hrs, returned for a unit that was DOA, returned for a unit that lasted an hour. Thought in 12 years they would have fixed problems, but this line of small electric chainsaws is not reliable.
I bought this electric chainsaw because I was too frustrated with my old chainsaw which hard to start. It's lighter to handle, quieter and especially just plug in and ready to work; no more pulling the cord and hoping for the engine to start.
The saw has plenty of power but the chain dulled after a dozen cuts. The oil is full but It still doesn't seem lubricated as the chain is throwing off smoke as it trys to cut. This is on day one of using it. I may try sharpening the chain and try again but I'm thinking I'll have to return it.
Got this on sale and used my SYW points and a rebate card from Sears Auto brake service. Came completely assembled. Only needed to add chainsaw oil to use. Comes with a sheath for the bar and chain.
It ran very smoothly, and immediately stopped when I released the trigger. Much safer to use than my old electric saw. This is a necessity for my 1 acre lot with lots of trees. It's needed to cut up limbs to go through my chipper shredder.
I have been using the craftsman 16" chain saws for many years. There are two things that i find objectionable about this latest version. The first thing that i did was to replace the short cord with a longer one. I never did like looping my cord around that hook and having the plug in the way. I do not like the new large circular bar tension devise on the right side. i like the concept, but the large knob gets in the way doing certain cuts. I find that the chips get caught up easier than the last model, making me have to take the time after each cut to clear out that area by the sprocket.
