Fantastic, with some exceptions

I’ve been looking to buy a bandsaw for a while and researched many different ones from HD, Lowe., Amz, etc. I ended up buying this one from a local Sears store because it was on sale for 176. This is the least expensive you can get and still have a 10” saw, with rollers for guides, included fence and miter. Also, Sears is very good taking care of customers so I had nothing to lose by trying. The saw came in mostly assembled. All that remains is attaching and adjusting the table. I was able to attach the table and adjust it to 100% perpendicular to the blade in about 20 minutes. I think it is important to rotate the wheels by hand for a time to make sure the blade is installed right before turning it on. On mine, it had come from the factory perfectly adjusted. Next I then tested the machine by doing a few cross and rip cuts on pine wood. It cut perfectly straight. I also had some oak boards on hand and tried the same cross/rip cuts. Perfect. Next the real test. I had a 1/2” thick Leopard Wood (VERY hard wood) used for a knife handle that needed to thin to 3/8 and cut some finger groves. Using the blade that came with the box, I set the fence to 3/8 to take 1/8 off. This is a real test of cutting accuracy. The saw “shaved” of 1/8 off of this really hard with no problem. I ended up with a 3/8 board and a dime-thick slice of the wood. Impressive. I then change the blade to a 1/8 blade I had bought from sears to cut the finger grooves. Being the first time, it took me about 20 minutes of playing with the alignment **** and the tension **** to get the blade to run just a bit off center. I also had to adjust the blade roller guides. In this configuration, I was able to cut 4 finger grooves in this hard wood in few minutes. Summary, this saw cuts hard wood with ease and accuracy, exactly what you need. Here’s a glitch I had with the saw. The top blade guide has two machined parts. One that holds the bearings and another L-shape one that connects to the movable blade guide. The L-Shape one was machined wrong and wasn’t 100% perpendicular. I went back to the store and the manager gave me a choice of replacing the whole saw or ordering me the part. Not wanting to lug the whole saw, I asked him to order it. A week later I received the part and it was perfect. Over all this has been a great saw for working with small parts and hard wood. Hint. 1- Adjusting the blade takes some work. This is not a table saw that you just bold on a blade. 2- The top blade guide has to be adjusted so that the back bearing is a very small distance away from the blade. Enough that it does touch with no load and stops the blade from moving back when cutting. If you don’t do this, narrow blades (i.e. 1/8) can roll off. 3- Hook up a shop vac to the dust collection port. Really helps to keep the internal wheels/tires clean. 4- Band saws are not made to make finish cuts. Don’t expect it to cut like a table saw. Leave space for sanding.

craftsman 10" bandsaw

I bought this bandsaw in February 2013. 10 months later the brushes were going out in the motor. Took the saw back to Sears only to find out I had to pay them $50 and bring the saw to UPS myself. Decided to bring it to a local shop only to find out bushes are not replaceable in this motor. Do not buy this saw. Spend a little more money and get a decent saw that will last. I will never again buy any craftsman tool

Wonderful saw

Bought this as a gift for my wife about a year or 2 ago and she loves it. She and our daughter have used it for all sorts of things, wood, plexiglass, plastics and metal.
very handy the way she set it up; she made a stand with wheels for it so she could store it out of the way.

I own many power tools and this is honestly the worse one ever.  No matter how much time you take to set it up, it just does not satisfy. Can't keep blade from drifting completely off tires. I have maybe 2 hours running time on this and have both Timber wolf 1/4" and 1/2" blades and nothing works. Tracking adjustments do no good. Disappointing cause I do like Craftsman tools but this one is not worth it. Dont buy it.  You have been warned!
