Very easy to set up and use in only a few minutes. If you follow the instructions, as with any planer, it is a very safe shop tool to use. I had had it a few days now and have used it with a variety of soft and hardwoods that include black cherry, black walnut, oak, red cedar, gold cedar, pine, and even some scrap oak pallet wood. Works great with all. I am using this along with my old Craftsman Planer/Jointer and they really compliment each other in my workshop where I make traditional style wooden folk instruments. Highly recommend them both.
After using it a day & a half the bearings started making noise & adjustment for depth would not stay locked in. Had hard time getting Sears to help with return/refund.
The planar worked pretty well. The saw dust kept on getting clogged, which was my biggest gripe. Perhaps the dewalt with the built-in vacuum would have worked better, but the price for this model was great. And I only planned to use it for a single project which it did the job just great.
Over all this is a good planer for the price but the in and out feed wings have a bit too much flex in them. Also read the manual and make all the adjustments needed to get them, the main bed and the blades/rollers all aligned to avoid snipe.
