Good mower for the price.

I was really impressed how easily this mower handled my grass that had grown out of control. It's first time mowing was a real test and it passed with flying colors. Awesome mower for the money.

Ok for the dollar

First time using one of these riding mowers due to walking issues and was pleasantly surprised. It's certainly nothing fancy and you absolutely have to read the directions before hopping on or you risk the danger of having problems with the machine. The bagger assembly does tend to come loose but other than that , no issues. Just remember you are not racing in a gran prix nor is it an ATV....this is just a very basic machine designed to take care of "normal" medium sized lawns, nothing more nothing less. Just like all machines and take care of them and they will take care of you.

42" riding mower

Being my first riding mower, I was very impressed by the versatility and response it has. It took some getting use to, but by my 2nd mowing I'm very comfortable with it.

Constantly? needs repairs

Very poor customer service!! Disabled Army Veteran told his extended? warranty expired 2 days ago. Will cost him $129.00 plus parts for service call to repair problems that were repaired twice under warranty, and continue to break. DO NOT depend on Sears to repair the goods they sell. Now I'm stuck with a broken lawn mower I paid $2000.00 for, and purchased extended warranty.

Blades push leaves out, up and into your face

The mowing blades push grass and leaves away from the blade's housing rather than into it. It pushes the debris to the front right of the mower where it hits the ground with such force that it bounces up and into your face. In several instances I had to stop because I kept getting debris in my eye. I now have to wear goggles just to mow the darn lawn and am covered by the smell of debris by the time I'm done.
I have a wide front yard so I mow up and down the street to mow up all the leaves. I do the same with my driveway. 80% of the leaves are blown out and to the right of the blade housing with such force that it bounces up and into my face rather than into the leaf bags. After 8 times up and down the street - 8 times - the leaves were still all over the street and the bottom of the leaf bags were barely covered. In the driveway, my car is covered with a fine layer of film and silt and needs to be washed after each mow, no matter how fast or slow I go or height I set the blades. I know different blades will give different results, so I tried 2other blades including high lift and all gave me the the same bad results.

The top blade height #5 is still a bit too short for my taste. At 4 its way too short and at 3 it scrapes up the soil. In late July and August I cut my lawn much higher to prevent burn out, but can't because the blade housing won't go any higher.
I re-read the manual and did you know that you can't replace the driver belt on your own? Says you must use a certified service provider.
Draining oil is horrible. No matter how you position the plastic attachment that comes with the mower, the oil comes out too fast for the plastic to handle its volume so it backs up and goes everywhere. I bought a 3/8" oil drain valve so I only have to turn the valve but I can't use it because the steering wheel bar runs so close to the drain opening that the front wheels won't turn fully. Bad design.
Last but not least this mower is a real gas guzzler. Plan on lots of trips to the gas station.
I dismissed others who were negative because the mower looks so great and has that ******** ribbon that pulls you into thinking "awwww, it'll be OK.", and the 42" seems so appealing. So here's my advice, don't buy. But if you do, watch for the issues I described, especially all the debris flying into your face, unable to mow leaves off your drive way or street. If you hate the mess as much as I do, be certain to return it in less that 30 days, otherwise you're stuck with it. After only 3 months, I hate this mower: I have to wear goggles, can't wait to get off this machine and take a badly needed shower and clean out all the fine debris in my scalp, can't pick up leaves off the street and driveway because the blades blow the leaves with such force forward, down and away from the housing and all over the street rather than into the blade housing. I'll be selling this cheap to anyone willing to buy it.
