Cut 2 acres quickly. Can cut in reverse which is very helpful. Also, I can get off and clear pathway while engine continues to run. No speed gears, you just press the gas pedel. Let off the gas pedal and it stops on a dime.
I bought my Craftsman *CA Only* 54" 24 HP V-Twin Briggs & Stratton Garden Tractor Fast Hydrostatic w/ TurnTight in February of 2015. I am posting this on 3/1.2017. I have use craftsman product my whole life (tools , rider mowers, push mowers, air compressor, saws table saws, ect. you name it). never had any problems. I had my last craftsman rider mower for about almost twenty years w/o any issues before I considered buying a new more powerful model. That's 20 years of a great product! When I brought home my new mower it I had problems from the start. The turn tight steering is a **** poor design. When I turn right, the right wheel slams to a 90 degrees turn and stops me dead in my tracks jolting my back. the left wheel is usually just pass a 1 o clock positioned turn when this happens. The same thing happens when I turn left. My wheels have fallen off, had to replace the tires twice the first year, the whole front end has been replaced including the new tie rods they had a recall on. I almost went off a and rolled down a hill the last time my tire came off. and yes they were coming off both sides. We finally fixed that (so far). now every time I go in reverse the tires are turning in and are pigeon toed, When I go forward they like to point out. I have had the repair guy come out numerous times to fix it and within 30 minutes when he leaves it starts to happen again. Then I have to call for another repair and wait for another 2 weeks to see him again. When will this stop. Please don't waste your hard earned money on this tractor. it is a never ending nightmare. I am not looking forward for my 5 year warranty to end. What then? Will l have to buy new tires, rims, bearings, tie rods every year at my own expense? By the way, my old craftsman tractor after 20 years still had the original tires. On a positive note, the engine is strong and runs great.
This tractor is made by Husqvarna. It has a "high end" Briggs and Stratton Intek v-twin and a high-end Hydro-Gear transmission. All well and good. 3 months into ownership the engine began to surge. The surging got worse until the tractor would scarcely operate. A Sears technician agreed to replace the carburetor under warranty stating "these engines are known to have finicky carbs." Within a couple of months, the surging began again. Fresh gas, a fresh fuel filter, and a carb rebuild and this still did not fix the issue. More. One week out of warranty a coil burned out. Next, the engine developed a problem with the governor. It is presently in a repair shop. It has a total of 25 hours on it. Of that 25 hours, the tractor has only operated about 1/3 of that time without surging. I actually like the tractor but the engine is the single most problematic engine I've ever owned on lawn/garden equipment. I have never had a problem with Kawasaki, Honda, ************** Predator or Kohler. If my tractor is any indication of the reliability of Briggs and Stratton, then I recommend against this tractor. I am seriously considering re-powering it with a ************** engine.
The lawn tractor is a good tractor but at 2 different Sears stores the Sales associates tell you the warranty will cover replacing blades and belts once a year and will replace a seat if it tears then when you call the service center and ask for the 40 hour maintenance and they tell you the Sales associate was wrong that normal wear and tear is not covered under the warranty. The sales associates at both places said they would even fix the flats for free. None of this was true. The 2 stores was Pampa and Amarillo
This is junk didn't even make it two summer's. Only 66 hours on it and the frame snapped in half
Ordered this almost 8 weeks ago,it was supposed to be delivered in 4 days. Got a call today telling me it won't be here for 3-4 more weeks. NO WAY. Couldn't understand the ppl on the phone. Speak English please. No wonder Sears stores are failing. Couldn't get to anyone for help.
Bought this about two years ago. Paid a lot for it. Went to use it this spring for the first time and it wouldn't drive. Runs OK but won't drive. Called for service and they couldn't come for two weeks. Arrived and told me the transaxle was shot and they would have to order to the tune of $819.00. Called them back and told them to get it and replace it. Was told that they couldn't return for three weeks. Grass is getting extremely high. Three weeks passed, guy shows up without part. This is BS. This mower is a Husqevarna? On their website their warranty is 3 yrs. Sears warranty is two years for same exact mower. I guess this shows why Sears is about to go under. They lost me for a customer after fifty years.
