I got this mulch kit in 2003/03 as an experiment. I was using my other 47" bagger to get the leaves up on about 4 acres which took about 3 weekends. The salesman at Sears said give it a try and if you don't like it bring it back. I loved it. It turned three weekends into a weekend and all the leaves go back as nutrients now. I even mulch my nature trails throughout 10 acres. I am very happy with it. The blades are heavy duty and I sharpen them 2 to 3 times a year. The blank is sturdy plastic but the design isn't all that great. Eventually debris gets jammed at the seam and it starts to raise up then you have to clear it- this generally doesn't happen with grass but with heavier debris and leaves, but I don't pick up everything before I mow. I am so satisfied with this kit I am looking to buy another. I have my $10 coupon but now I think I'll wait for it to come down to $40- yeah!
1. They sell you another set of mulch blades. It comes with mulch blades. 2. the The cutting deck mulcher cover is held on by bungee cords and if you happen to run over a pine cone it dislodges the cover and cuts itslf up. Cheep plastic with rubber bands--NOT SEARS QUALITY 3. The cover should be well fitting, made of metal and bolted on.
The entire hardware to attach cover was missing from this kit that I ordered.
Not much to say. When I finally received the complete package the contents for perfectly and the mulching had begun.
Easy to install perfect fitment.
Does a very good job of mulching
This kit fit well and was relatively easy to install. I say relatively because I have a tractor lift, which makes access to the mower deck much easier and I have an impact wrench for removing the mower blades (which can be challenging with hand tools only). Although the grass chute will be closed, the instructions recommend that you do not remove the deflector shield. I find that both unnecessary and the shield impinges on line of sight for cutting around landscaping. One last thing: when I picked this up at Sears Appliance Showroom, it looked like it had been kicked out of an airplane and then run over a few times. The plastic was abraded and the blades were rather badly rusted. So this is a decent kit, but unfortunately Sears no longer cares about their products and shipment.
