The only problem I have with it is that the feed adjustment cable should be placed into the mounting position prior to it being set to the feed gate. When I installed the adjuster the cable had such a twist to it that the feed gate twists to one side causing uneven flow of the product. also there is nothing on the shaft to stir the product and force the flow into the gate. Several times I had to stop and reshuffle the product in order to get a continous flow
This is the worst spreader I have had in my life. Barely made it through one year. I was only able to use it twice. Don't waste your money on this. Normally Sears has pretty good stuff. This was junk. Very unhappy!!
I only buy from Sears
Not a bad deal for sale price.
When I used the spreader the first time, the plastic “Wing Nut” that clamps down the spreader adjustment setting knob broke. It was, or is a weak link to this device. I went to HD and purchased a metal wing nut and replaced it. it works fine now, and I will add I like the way this control is set up. It has a cable that pushes and pulls the gate that sets the amount of opening. My previous spreader used a spring return, which would allow the slide gate to stay open. You can close this feeder gate and it stays closed.
The unit bounces if you go too fast and you waste product. I had to modify the shut off because it would never close completely no matter how hard I tried. There is nothing in the manual to indicate the settings for flow rate. I suppose you are expected to know intuitively how to set it. The frame rusted where one of the assembly bolts went through, even though it is coated to prevent rust.
