Damaged on receipt

Chipper, Shredder, Yard Vacuum arrived 3 weeks late and was damaged. Snow has covered the leaves now, so there goes getting the leaves up and I am having to send it back for replacement. Hoping it does not take another 3 weeks to arrive and damaged.

A Big Mistake

|

purchased this had issues from day 1 back and forward getting replacements 4th one worked then self destructed after 6 months
was greeted buy a rude crapsman rep for warranty who accused me and the wife of over using the machine even tho we use it about once a week in the spring well the warranty department told us we over used it<i did make the comment do you expect your customers to purchase items to keep shiny in the garage and not use them he dint reply). Finally after 7 hours of phone calls we have been refunded. long story short me and the wife will never purchase craftsman again. product quality poor, customer services beyond poor . after 6 months mild use you can expect chock to rattle lose bag attachment to handle to come apart all screws on the deck to work lose plastic bag to back attachment to start disintegrating and with the flaws we also had the engine base flange also crack due to all the vibrations . on one more note if you are less than fit don't expect a easy time to empty the bag

As expected

Bought this to replace a 20 year old Yard Man unit. It's basically the same machine as 20 years ago except it has the vacuum hose and a slightly more powerful engine. Even the bag off the 20 year old unit fits this one.
These units are all made by MTD, so it doesn'much matter if you get a Sears, *********, Troy Bilt, Yard Man.....they're all the same except for paint color, decals, and possibly slight engine variation.
It works as expected. On hard surfaces like driveways and sidewalks, it's very good. On lawns, it's ok if leaves are dry and you don't try to push it too quickly. Twigs and small branches can cause it to clog.
The bagging system is cumbersome, and the bag gets very heavy as it fills. It is difficult to empty when full, usually requiring you to pull some of the leaves out by hand. The durability of the bag is questionable, and the bag is expensive. I!m using the bag from my 20 year old unit which has been patched numerous times. I'm not certain if the new bag will hold up as well.
The pulverizing of the is...OK... if you have the time to empty the bag onto the ground and vacuum it back up, the result is significantly better.
The machine is heavy, so it will give you a workout after a few hours. Mine is also difficult to start after sitting for any length of time. Again, having had an old version of the same machine, none of these characteristics came as any surprise.
I believe some brands offer a self propelled version, but I'm not certain if that would be an advantage. It would add more weight to the unit, and may result in trying to feed leaves into the unit too quickly.

Lawn Vacuum

I am satisfied with this unit except the bag is horrible. First time I used it the clip/fastener on the right side broke. It was very expensive to replace. So I use a vice grip to hold it. Also, with the flaps, it makes it hard to fold to lock up and difficulty to empty into a trash can without spilling the leaves around the can. You have to improve the bag unit please.
