My old mower was small and under-powered. When it broke it took 3 weeks to get the funds together and pick which mower to but. The comparable engine size and on a Deere, Cadet, or Husqvarna was $150 to $500 more expensive and reliability ratings as good or lower. I have an additional 1/3 of an acre that hasn't been mowed in years. After I had finiahed the other 2/3s of acre I decideded to try the 3 foot tall grass on the highest deck setting and this thing went through it w/o breaking a sweat. hidden in the tall grass was a small tree with 3/4 in trunk. It was too late for me to stop so I went right over it. Tree had 3 trunks at 3/4 of an inch and this tank made mulch of the tree. The part of my lawn that was mowed on a regular basis looked better than it had with my old mowers, and now the back hay field looks better too. With the power to weight ration this mower has, I fully expect to still be using this tank of a mower for more than 20 years. Don't waste time, get one of these. You can't go wrong!!
Just had my Craftsman 42" Tractor delivered today and confirmed the only design flaw that I had suspected. The ATTACHMENT CLUTCH LEVER, when released to disengage the mower blades, snaps back and cracked me directly in the right kneecap twice. THIS LEVER SHOULD BE ABOUT 2-3 inches shorter to alleviate this. I'm telling you this hits HARD and I had to stop mowing and kind of walk it off each time. The manufacturer needs to do a recall and fix this. I used to have an LT2000, and the engage lever was in a much better location on the tractor. I would be grateful if the manufacturer would take this into consideration. 2 stars, but if they fix this, I would give it 5 stars.
the steering is not engineered properly it goes too far and turns the wheels sideways. the mandrill also breaks easily it is the housing that holds pully and blade .the carburetor has a steal plate that rusts andclogs up jets is
I bought this tractor along with the snowblower attachment. The snowblower has failed me so many times and I paid for a warranty they conveniently cant find !!! I have been given the brush off for a year now, until its past the warranty period!!! Sears should be ashamed !!!
I bought my mower 22hp B&S 42in cut. New I mowed my yard almost one time. I've work on or lawnmower shop worked on it .I have put carb-fuel filter - air -fuel pump -hoses plugs-new gas 2 times val-adjusted -checked magneto. Still doest run the way it should.
Sears or Craftsman can't sell me anything else. This mow had a problem with the pulley a few days short of the warranty being up, I called the number listed in my manual on several days in a row was on hold for over 30 minutes never talked to anyone. Tried calling again over the weekend and only got a recorded message that they were currently closed to call back during regular business hours. So calling back the following Monday, staying on hold for another 30+ minutes the scheduled a repair appt. when repairman got here he trying to tell me I had to pay $300+ because the warranty was up by a couple days. The warranty wasn't up when I kept trying to call a few day before it was and could never talk to anyone. Sears say they have a 24 hour line, well I called the only number listed in my manual to call.
I've had this for a year now, so it's time to review. Pros: Cuts very well, nice and even. Starts easily. Tight turn feature is very good.
Cons: I don't weigh enough (110) to keep the engine running so I have to put 2 bricks on the seat to sit on. Very uncomfortable. Engine is very clackety-clackety. The backup pedal is difficult for me to use, maybe because I can't put enough pressure on it because the bricks raise me up too high, and you have to press the pedal all the way down to move.
