Craftsman 42" Fast Auto 19HP review

Pros: Made by Huskvarna, mower is excellent. Cons: Errors in documentation and "marketing fluff"... From full specs "Maximum Forward Speed (mph): 5.5".... From product sku lablel: "42" Hydro"... It does not have the 5.5mph or Hydro transmission. It has the 7.5mph General Transmission RS800. GT part label is on transmission. Marketing fluff "Automatic transmission"... It is not an automatic. It is a manual CVT. Marketing fluff "forward and reverse pedal this tractor operates just like a car"... It has a hand throttle, brake, forward, reverse pedals, so I guess it is sort of like a Model T, except there is no free wheeling like in a car with your foot off the pedal. The mower froward/reverse pedals have a built-in brake; it will stop if foot is off forward or reverse pedal. Foot brake is for parking, starting, or if you want to creep real slow, as in parking in a shed.

Design Flaw

Just had my Craftsman 42" Tractor delivered today and confirmed the only design flaw that I had suspected. The ATTACHMENT CLUTCH LEVER, when released to disengage the mower blades, snaps back and cracked me directly in the right kneecap twice. THIS LEVER SHOULD BE ABOUT 2-3 inches shorter to alleviate this. I'm telling you this hits HARD and I had to stop mowing and kind of walk it off each time. The manufacturer needs to do a recall and fix this. I used to have an LT2000, and the engage lever was in a much better location on the tractor. I would be grateful if the manufacturer would take this into consideration. 2 stars, but if they fix this, I would give it 5 stars.

I bought this tractor along with the snowblower attachment. The snowblower has failed me so many times and I paid for a warranty they conveniently cant find !!! I have been given the brush off for a year now, until its past the warranty period!!! Sears should be ashamed !!!

Awful Customer Service

|

Sears or Craftsman can't sell me anything else. This mow had a problem with the pulley a few days short of the warranty being up, I called the number listed in my manual on several days in a row was on hold for over 30 minutes never talked to anyone. Tried calling again over the weekend and only got a recorded message that they were currently closed to call back during regular business hours. So calling back the following Monday, staying on hold for another 30+ minutes the scheduled a repair appt. when repairman got here he trying to tell me I had to pay $300+ because the warranty was up by a couple days. The warranty wasn't up when I kept trying to call a few day before it was and could never talk to anyone. Sears say they have a 24 hour line, well I called the only number listed in my manual to call.

Nice machine

I've had this for a year now, so it's time to review. Pros: Cuts very well, nice and even. Starts easily. Tight turn feature is very good.
Cons: I don't weigh enough (110) to keep the engine running so I have to put 2 bricks on the seat to sit on. Very uncomfortable. Engine is very clackety-clackety. The backup pedal is difficult for me to use, maybe because I can't put enough pressure on it because the bricks raise me up too high, and you have to press the pedal all the way down to move.
