I searched and researched relentlessly on every type of review site before purchasing this tractor. I had settled on another Craftsman tractor based on consumer reports, and then changed my mind after reading reviews of the same tractor right here. I have no negatives to share yet, The tractor mows great. Great power, and the finishing touches, like rolling over the metal edges on the body and frame, standard 4 anti scalp wheels on the mower deck, lifetime warranty on the front axle, and many other notable features show attention to detail. as delivered, all of the fluids were where they belong, the deck was perfectly leveled, and all visible fittings were greased. All of the nuts and bolts that I checked were tight. My yard is just shy of 2 acres, and is a mix of very rough terrain, flats and some very wet areas. I have had no issues with traction, or mowing abilities at all. One of the most important things frequently overlooked is to read your manual before using the tractor. As stated in the manual, all of my tire pressures were way over inflated for shipping and had to be adjusted. I have had ZERO traction issues with this mower, and I know from experience that tire pressures are critical to proper traction. It is possible the few unfavorable comments relating to traction could be tire pressure related. The Kohler engine in my experience with proper maintenance will be bullet proof and outlast the user. I have read mixed reviews of the Tufftorq transmission, but once again with proper maintenance and being used as intended, it is quite heavy duty and will give a very long service life. The only concern I have, and for no other reason than just a physics point of view, is with the tight turn. It is great around trees etc, but I can see if the wheel were turned tight, and somehow got into a hole or along side a fixed object, the forward momentum of the tractor would certainly have enough leverage against the front end to break something. Again, just an observation and my opinion. The tractor, at $2200.00 I think is a great buy for what you get, however, to me it represents a sizable investment just to mow my lawn. I am very confident that this will prove to be a good purchase decision, and will say right up front that all of the other reviews on this site of this tractor greatly influenced my decision to buy. I hope that my two cents will help someone else out as well.
Immediately had problems with mower height adjustment lever pulling out of fender. Also have loud squealing/squeaking in front end. Purchased 5 year warranty, but Sears cannot get anyone to my house for 2 weeks. Spent too much time on phone yesterday trying to get my problem addressed. I never did get it resolved.
Tractor delivered when expected. I was not home but wife was. Unit was rolled into garage door but never started. Almost a whole week went by when I finally got the chance to start it up. Poured in some gas and finally cranked it up. Seemed to run nicely although I must say that the instruction manual was not easy to follow and a bit confusing. I shut it off and a few days later In decided to start it up again and let the gas run out for winter storage. I did not plan on using it to mow until the spring. On 2nd attempt to start it cranked but would not turn over to the point where battery drained. Then I notice that there was a pool of motor oil under the mower. I will call Sears tomorrow. I did read some of the other negative reviews on this unit and I'm now worried. Do I have a lemon?
I’m writing this review as an initial impression. I have about an hour on the mower at this point so this is strictly from that point of view.
I chose this particular mower mostly because of the advertised “tight turn” technology. Let me say....I’m blown away! I was going to get a zero turn mower, but wanted the capabilities of a yard tractor as well (I purchased the snow thrower attachment too). The mower turns on a dime and is greatly going to cut down my mowing time. Slow down on the turns and you won’t do any damage. The mower looks and feels solid. It’s fun to drive (and quite zippy!). The app for the mower that connects and gives information is a bit gimmicky but I see the value in tracking and being reminded of service. It tells the battery charge and hours which are helpful.
We needed to replace our 18 year old Craftsman tractor. I looked at 5 stores online, narrowed choices to **********, *********, and Craftsman. My husband decided on tight turn Craftsman. Had good luck with Kohler engine in our previous rider. Technology has come a long way in 18 years. Love the app, love the look of mower, cup & phone holder..most importantly is the extreme tight turn radius. Cuts our lawn like a champ. The seat is comfortable, the mower is awesome. My husband and son both love this mower. They highly recommend it. We have used it 4 times since received September 2018. Sears sells great lawn mowers. Used Sears card for no interest 6 months, used a coupon and received points. Great deal on an incredible riding mower.
