Ok, so this tractor has worked and performed as I thought. After reading all the reviews, I decided on buying this unit which seemed to fit my needs. I wanted a high powered unit, knowing I will be adding a large driveway to my home, and wanted to add the snow blower attachment. BEWARE, Sears info is contradictory in every way! I called for assistance and was provided with different answers with every call. No one has the correct info... So here it is; - Bagger #24080 (19a30018OEM) 3 bin bagger, it's ok but tends to fill only 2 bags. - Snow thrower #24837 + #11904(bracket kit) throws snow a mile! No one in Sears knew about the bracket kit, I happened to find it during my search. For the remaining accessories, I would contact MTD Tractors, as they are the manufacturer of this tractor. Also, search for a "attachment fit-up" chart. It does list part numbers for other accessories, but also indicates that certain parts are not available, but actually are. Double check all your part numbers, as I was provided numbers that didn't fit. I will be buying wheel weights and chains to be used with the snow blower, but guess what.... The numbers listed don't appear to be correct... In review, I can't fault the operator answering the phone, they're providing info listed on a chart they're reading, too bad the charts are contradictory. Shop the prices at different stores... These accessories are sold in many stores.. Sears needs to re-vamp the parts house!
Transaxle/Hydrostatic drive leaking after first 20 hours. I paid for the care package, otherwise I'd be up you know what creek. 1st review was kicked which had a higher rating, stating helpful information on equipment attachments that were wrong on fit chart for fellow customers. Just avoid this product. Folks in the store were great, too bad about the product.
I use this Lawn tractor\Mower almost everyday on my small hobby farm. I am mowing 2-3 acers of lawn and about a acre of ROUGH as **** steep slopes and ditch line. I have owned this mower for 2 years and have only replaced the blades once. Thats right only the blades and no other problems. I use this mower to haul heavy loads of debris, rock, wood, you name it I have moved it with this unit. I have used this to drag brush as I am cleaning up over grown land, and to drag around 8 16' cattle panels weekly. I SERVICE unit on a regular basis. I have read about the notorious SPRING problem and have not had any problem with this. I have mowed grass that was over the hood ( very very slow and careful) with no issues no breakdowns. I will continue to recommend this unit.
Purchased 26 hp 54" cut mower (largest Sears had) in 2013. Frame broke clean half in two. Trying to get Sears to honor there 5 year warranty on the frame is a battle. Called for service and was repeatedly told that it was not under warranty any more. Just astounding. If you are buying this as a throw away mower then go for it. If you want a company to stand behind their product and honor their warranty, go somewhere else!
I purchased the 27055 as a warranty replacement on my 3yo G5500 (red) 54" Garden Tractor. I wanted the 50" w/out Turn Tight but it was no longer available. I received the 27055 last week and have now logged 4 hours cutting and hauling. The machine is a definite upgrade from the 5500. Rides nicer, steers nicer, has a bit higher clearance and so far mows as nice or better. Oil change and other motor maintenance (drain, fill, filters) look much easier than the 5500 due single left side location and ease of access. The TurnTight mechanics on this machine are very different than the 5500. TurnTight was a weak point on the 5500 and was what failed on that unit. I AM NO FAN OF TURN TIGHT and believe it does not belong on a Garden Tractor. Sears should offer a "No Turn Tight" upgrade kit for all of their Garden Tractors. Jury will remain out on this version of Turn Tight. So far seems more "sturdy" and "stable" than the wobbly, weak 3 piece linkage design on the 5500. Time will tell if Sears got Turn Tight right on this machine. I sure hope so as the equal Green/Yellow product is too expensive.
I purchased the 27055 model online in April of this year. My decision to purchase the pro series craftsman model over other competing brands was greatly influenced by great product reviews, and other user's questions & answers. I love the mower (when it is running).
With that said - I would like to say that this has become a full-fledged MASSIVE issue with the large (1.5" Dia.) gold idler spring. I can 400% attest to this. Within the first 20 minutes of me mowing for the first time, the end of the spring snapped right off, effectively shredding the belt somehow. Called sears support, and blatantly stated that I either wanted to return the mower for a full refund OR they can send me an entirely brand new tractor to swap out. They agreed to replace the mower, but it would be a 3 week lead-time. After talking to 5 more reps, I finally got a supervisor who somehow reduced the time in which I had to just watch my grass grow to 5 days. That was great, just took about 3 hours of hassling for them to finally make it right.
Back to the spring - received the brand new replacement tractor and this time, they even included a secondary replacement spring, for "just in case this one breaks". Huh? I thought that was odd, considering the 'quality first' company motto, but I definitely did not complain. Welp - this time I got about 4 or 5 mows in (5-6 hours), and the spring broke, again on the same connecting end. Thank goodness for that 'extra' spring they graciously gave me.
Installed it, and everything went back to being great again. So now, on my THIRD spring, this past week it broke again. Tractor now has 11 hours on it. Three springs broken in 11 hours of total mow time, between two exact same model tractors.
Called sears support, again, since I'm now freshly out of P.O.S. springs, and the customer rep was really helpful. Promised to have TWO new springs sent to me within 5 business days. Well, the springs arrived....and they are not the same spring. Much much smaller. I still have not been resolved of this issue, as my grass continues to grow, and I'm thinking that i'll have to wait till a weekday to speak to a supervisor to find out what is going on.
The spring that is listed on the Sears website is:
Blade Idler Spring
Part #: 732-04927
The two random springs that I just got in the mail were:
732-05108A and 732-05146
Neither one of those two springs are listed on the Sears website as being even on the 27055 model.
Sears, or MTD, flat out needs to do something about this problem. There is no way a company should be as aware of as big of an issue like this, but act as if there is nothing to see. Every single one of their customer service reps should know EXACTLY what deck spring the customer is talking about when they call complaining, and not as if it is their first time hearing about this.
Other than this whole spring nightmare, I'd rate the product as an 5 star. But it's kinda hard to do that when a critical part breaks 3 times in 11 hours.
I've had this 2 1/2 years and just had the fourth front wheel replaced. Twice the wheel came off while riding, luclky I was pitched the right the way, could have flipped it otherwise. Gone through 2 tention springs and on the third belt. The blade covers pop off after one mowing, given up on replacing and putting them back on. It's been a month since I mowed as they always have trouble finding the replacement parts and the repair service only comes out every 2 weeks. I have run this less than 60 hours. Of the 2 1/2 years I've own this only been able to use it about half the time,as it has been inoperable waiting for parts or the repairman to come. Luckily I bought the extended warranty, not sure what I'm going to do when it runs out. Very disappointed, especially for 3K.
