Just wanted to write this, as even though I won't know too much about this tractor until its been through its paces and I've tried to fix things on it, there are no reviews. Therefore, this review is just for initial impressions. Looks good, and things appear accessible (which is promising for repairs) and runs fast. Knocking off a point because my wife hates the fact it has no acceleration pedal, and has a lever instead. It'll just take a little getting used to though, but feels very weird at first. The seat is slippery too and I can imagine sliding off this thing when going over hills (my old one had handles on the side which this is missing). But it seems to run nicely. Time will tell if its reliable and easy to repair (the most important criteria).
When my mower arrived I was told to have fresh gas ready. They poured in the gas, started the mower, showed me how it operated and explained the safety features. The first time I mowed the lawn I hit a rock which broke all 4 mounting brackets on the center mandrel dropping the center blade to the ground. I was gone for a year and on my return I hit a 1 inch thick branch laying in the tall grass which broke the right mandrel. This time I repaired it myself and realized that they had never greased ANYTHING on the tractor! Because of this I had to replace the bearings on all 3 mandrels and both front wheels. Also all 3 blades needed to be replaced. All this with less than 60 hours on the mower. I expected more from Craftsman and truly regret having bought it. ??
First I liked the cut this mower gave. It did do a great job cutting my grass. My problem was the white smoke that billowed when I started it. Which started going darker as the mower was used. I did not except a replacement for the mower because of the seating. When sitting on this mower you cannot stay in the seat. You constantly slide forward and of course when you lift up to move your **** back it shuts off or almost shuts off. This seat needs to be totally redesigned. I tried everything to stay in the seat. It is like the seat if tilted forward with the front being lower then the back. You simply cannot stay in the seat. If not for that I would have taken a replacement mower.
This mower is replacing my very old Craftsman 50" Kohler engine rider and the Briggs is very strong. I have a small farm that the new mower had no problem getting the job done fast and I only have used it once so far. I mowed the big yard and a small paddock which is about two acres. I would not use it on a bush hog job on a pasture because that is not what it is made for. When the blades are engaged, this mower is serious. I did see another FL review about it kicking up a lot of dirt if you have sandy soil before I bought it and thought the person may have had the carriage too low or they have lots of sandy spots. My grass is well established everywhere, but around my screened in back porch area it is much thinner with some sandy spots under the trees. The mower has ten levels to mow and I mowed on the second to the highest level on a needing to be mowed, but post summer growth yard after hurricane Irma. I am still learning the mower, but I can't imagine trying to mow any lower because it seems like I would be right on the ground. There may be an adjustment that I have not had time to find out about to raise the carriage like my other mower and then go with the handle adjustment. When I mowed around my house I had the mower blowing away from it for twenty five feet or so, but had to go the other way too later. I had a major unexpected job with all of the cleaning I had to do on my screened in porch that I have never experienced. I still gave the mower 5 stars because it's a work horse and I was mowing in the places with the sandy spots and I will figure this out. My salesperson Jeff was spot on when I called after researching mowers on the internet before narrowing down my choices. I wanted to see one and talk to a person and he let me know that Sears could honor the $700. sale I found on the internet and answered my questions after the sale as professional as before I bought it. I am still waiting for time to figure a few things out, like why does the throttle have a place above the rabbit fast speed that makes it sound like it is stalling and if I can raise the carriage, then use the handle adjustment. All in all, this is a strong mower and time will tell if it lasts as long as my old one and I mow weekly in the summer months. Also, my delivery guys were on time in pre-hurricane weather in pouring rain, but took as much time as needed to explain and make sure the mower would start, run, and mow. I will find the answers to my questions when I get time, but this mower is strong so far.
"this is my 2nd 54"m mower this modle has less power than 54" my last sears mower other than thaT ITS OK i WAS PROMISED $11.00 IN POINTS NO ONE KNOWS HOW TO GET THEM THIS POINT SYSTEM IS VERY CONFUSING
Does exactly what it is supposed to do... cuts the grass... quickly and efficiently at this point. We are very happy with our purchase.
So far so good. Did the normal maintenance checks whenever you buy something new like greased all the fittings check tire pressure checked all fluids. Fired right up seems to be running great so far. Time will tell
