Craftsman Wall Cabinet Red/Black

Picked one of these up at Sears today. I will be a good addition to my garage. It will add storage space, and the Red/Black color scheme matches my roll-away tool chest. The unit comes dissassembled. Assembly is not too hard, the instructions are easy to understand and follow. I had the basic assembly done in about half an hour using a my fingers and the included Allen wrench. It took about another 15 to 20 minutes to square it up and to tighten all the fasteners. Maybe another five minutes to put on the doors. I don't have the Craftsman Versa Track system so I used the option to install the cabinet to the studs in the garage wall. This option allows the user to select between 16 or 24 inch stud centers. Consistent with my garage construction I chose the 16" center option. I am happy with this addition to my garage, and may get another in the future.

No more Craftman junk for me

The description for this product says there is a lock for this cabinet. If there is, I didn't get one with mine. And the fit is terrible. I could use another one, but it sure won't be from Sears.

Sturdy for RTA cabinets, but flawed

|

I bought 4 of these as part of a Garage project and hung them on the Versatrack.

After assembly the box is sturdy and reasonable strong. The Versatrack bracket made hanging them a breeze.

The bolts are too long and intrude into the cabinet using up valuable space. Several panels were bent or dented. The bent and dented panels were a surprise because the product was well packed, unopened and the box was damage free. Clearly a defect in the manufacturing or packing process. There was no damage to any visible part and the panels were easy enough to straighten by hand. Had I paid full price, I would have returned them. After hanging them, I noticed the bolts prevented them from being flush with each other. I removed the top and bottom bolts on each side and bolted them all together. The foam padding made the cabinets lean forward. I threw the foam away and screwed a 1 x 2 x 9 foot board to the wall at the bottom of the cabinet. With the Versatrack on top, they sit perfectly flush and level.

Very good but a simple fix could make it better

Bought this primarily to match my Red/Black Craftsman tool boxes and rolling cabinets. Since this is an RTA product (Ready To Assemble) packed into the smallest possible carton for shipping/warehousing efficiency there are various bends in the sheet metal (flanges) for assembly purposes inside the cabinet that you don't see that take up storage space. You don't get the full use of the inside volume especially for a larger object that can't fit between several nooks and crannies created by the flanges. I can accept that because it's RTA, but the simplest thing that could be done is change the assembly screws to a shorter length so that they don't protrude even further into the storage volume. I'd say you get about 75-80% use of the volume. I'm going to grind off the extra screw length to increase the storage maybe 5%. Overall satisfied. Important...follow instructions carefully and don't tighten any screws/nuts until everything is bolted together lightly otherwise the cabinet will be out of square. Also assemble on a very flat surface.
