Great tool set. Comes with a good array of 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 6 and 12 pt sockets and drive tools. I particularly like the marked insert in the drawers for the tools. I would recommend this set to any weekend/shadetree mechanic. If you order them for direct shipment from sears.com, be prepared to wait up to 10 days for delivery "after" you get the "your order has shipped" notice.
I've been using Craftsman hand tools for many many years now and have literally spent thousands on them. Sadly, Craftsman tools are not the quality tools they once were. I bought this mechanics set at the end of 2011 thinking it was a great deal. I couldn't have been more wrong. You can easily see that they were made cheap and boxed cheap just to get 283 pieces to market. Well there is 283 pieces but many of those pieces are duplicates and hex keys. By far the worst feature about this set for me besides the poor quality of the tools are the drawers and the cheap plastic molds that the tools slide around on. I can't count how many times I've had to dig my tools out from the bottom of the box with an extension magnet to retrieve the sockets that fell down (the drawers do not pull out completely). Craftsman has really fell behind the pack of great tool makers and quality products. Until they roar back with quality, I've chosen to take my money and business elsewhere...snap-on tools.
I bought this set in 2010 to start working as a mechanic. It served me well, it was great that it came with a box, as I needed a small one to take to work at the time. The only gripe I have with this set is the wrenches. They are very odd in there sizes. If your going to buy this set make sure you have some quality wrenches first. I have since added a lot more craftsman and other tools to my collection, but it will always be this one that I started out on. Thanks craftsman.
PS. At the time all the tools were USA made. I believe sears is selling off all there old sets, like this one. Otherwise your stuck with China Craftsman, which are less than desired.
This set was American made at the time of my purchase in November 2014. The quality outstanding. I went back and forth on what set to buy until a Sears salesman told me it was the last American made set in stock. I bought the set and have been pleased since day one
this set was well worth it if you need to start a tool collection/ need tools. comes with everything you need to work on your car or take on some home repairs.
I got this 283 piece tool set with the tool box at a nearby Sears store in the mall in Johnson City Tennessee. I got to use my points and even a coupon on it. I do like the set as it has all 3 sizes 1/4" drive, 3/8 and 1/2 drive. Can make use of all the sizes it has. This one was made in USA which was one of the reasons I wanted to buy it. Great deal!
I love the completeness of the socket sets! It's a great way to add to or begin a complete tool collection.
