Okay, I had a Craftsman 5500 series with a 158 cc engine with a 22 inch blade. Bought it back in April 11, 2008. Time came to buy another mower, I bought a Craftsman online, returned it. I took it to a Sears store 30 miles away. Great service, 30 day warranty. I saw what was in the store, received a refund and went all over the city looking for a Lawnmower. The Main reason for my returning this mower was the handle height. I'm 5 foot 9 inches tall the handle was below belt height. Anyone that's pushed a lawnmower for years knows that is a back breaker! I went to every Lawn and Garden stores in the City. All the same Low handle height. Went back to Sears were I remember this Mower had the Highest handle height on all the floor models. Brought it home, Disappointed the handle height was not the same as the floor model I saw, But still was the highest of them all. The handle height on this mower is just a little above the belt waist level on me. Now the other issue, same as the mower I returned. The gas cap on these mowers in Not a screw On, The gas cap is like a twist a lock. I was mowing along a row of small shrubs the tiny branches rubbed against the Gas Cap and Poof it comes Off. Luckily there is a Plastic strap attached to mower so gas cap can't be lost! Break out the Craftsman weed trimmer so as not to get close to the small shrubs. I could not get mower to cut low, it was like pushing a plow. I adjusted the wheels as low as I could easily push the mower. I would say this mower works on different grass types. This mower does do the job , on high grassy areas cut right through with No Problem. I had maybe the same experience out of the box. On one of the wheels. The front left wheel was not mounted right at factory, but a simple fix. I just turned it to were slot meet the bracket and it locked into place. Employee issues at the factory most likely. This engine Does Not have a Primer to start the engine, Unbelievable! I followed the starting steps as in the manual. Pulled the cord 5 times did not start. I have owned Craftsman push mowers all my Day, so from experience I reached under tugged the linkage on the carburetor 4 times. Then pulled the cord and the sweet sound of the engine roared. This mower has a Super Sweet Powerful Engine. The air filter adds to the refinement of the engine like top notch. The Never Change Oil for Life has yet to be seen. I'm not using the grass catch bag. This mower like the other Craftsman mowers Mulch Door is permanently attached, if you want the Discharge Guard just lift the Mulch Door insert the Discharge Guard and its attached. I have been pushing Craftsman Mowers for over 30 years. This Craftsman 725 e x i Series for the Price is the only push mower out there that works for Me. Though Craftsman Designers and Management could Do Much Better.
I decided to treat myself to a new mower this year. I was excited to take this out of the box and give it a try. The first one that arrived, one of the back wheels wouldn't lock into position. So, it would just fall down every time I tried to raise the deck of the mower. I thought, no big deal, I will just return it and get another one. One defect isn't that bad. I never even got a chance to start it. The customer service was excellent. Very easy to return. UPS picked up the first one. Second one arrived on only 2 days. Sweet. My new mower will be ready to go (I thought). I unbox the second one roll it out and try to raise the deck of the mower. Same problem, opposite side. It won't hold the latch so it just keeps falling down. Again, customer service was good for the return, but, I expected better quality. This is a simple defect, but, I am really disappointed that these either get damaged in shipping or there is no quality control on the smaller details of the mower. I ultimately don't know how many stars to give this thing because I never got to start it up. I will be sticking with my old mower for now.
Purchased this for the low maintenance and easy start. Love it being a single woman makes this lawn mower a ease when it comes time to mow. Never had a push mower that was so easy to start being a older woman it makes a difference when having to pull a cord. NO PROBLEM with this one
Bought this mower on sale and regret decision. Ran once and died! Apparently the motor is seized and Sears refuses to replace since it was 3 days past 30 days of purchase. Now I have to take to a Sears service center to see if they will honor the repairs to this defective mower. Craftsman is no longer what it used to be and Sears does not stand behind their products unless you purchase an additional warranty from them.
This mower is easy to assemble and it started on the first pull of operation. The only bad part about it was the rear wheel was damage. It wasn't locking into place. I was able to use some tie wire until I can replace the part. It cuts the lawn great. Powerful.
I had to replace my 10 year old Craftsman 5.5 w/ 158cc push mower. This was on sale and the power of 7.25 torque and 163cc was higher than what I had. Model 37451 allowed me to cut with less effort than before - the mower seems lighter. It was easy to set-up and started on the 1st pull (no bulb to press on this model). My old mower had all small wheels, so the larger back wheels on this model help with handling the mower.
I used it without the bag as I like to mulch the grass and the few leaves that were on the ground to add nutrients back in. It did a good job of mulching and didn't leave any clumps of grass - I set the mower at the highest level, which keeps the grass in good shape.
I didn't try using the bag yet, but I will when the leaves get too thick to mulch.
