Pay attention. 4 ton rating is for the pair. When used together, you will be able to safely support 4 tons or less. 8,000 pounds. To put that into perspective, the current generation of Ford F-150 has a GVWR of 7,050 pounds. These jack stands will be able to safely support a 1/2 ton light duty pickup truck, or anything else smaller. This product will be fine for any size passenger car, sedan, compact, coupe, subcompact, et cetera. There are only 4 parts, held together by 2 roll pins. The weakness is in the roll pins. Inspect prior to each use. Ensure that the roll pins are intact, in place, and do not appear to be backing out. I still have a set of these from when I was a kid. Back then, they may have been Made In U.S.A. Today, I don't know where they are made. The roll pins on my jack stands have never backed out or fallen off. Not to say that it can't happen. If I already have 2 sets (4 jack stands), why am I buying more? A gift for a family member getting her first car. Now she will have these forever too. Mine are stored in my garage, and used regularly. As a person with several cars, I maintain my vehicles every few months, which means that once a month I'm using the jack stand on one of my vehicles. Since this is not an industrial product, it is not engineered to be used repeatedly through the day, every day. Due to the simplicity in design, there would be no problem using it every day. And if you have a long term project, these jack stands will work perfectly. You will be able to leave a build on these for months, if not years. Product comes with a 1 year warranty. This item will last a lifetime. You will own this forever.
Upon first inspecting the stands, I noticed that the paint was all scratched and marred up from the pieces rubbing together. It seems that they applied a very thin coat of paint that can easily come off. The poor packaging that they transport these in is partly to blame as well. Second, the jack stands are rated for 4 tons AS A PAIR. They do not describe that in the description. I was under the impression that these were 4 ton-rated per jack stand. You can also see from the product picture, that the yellow part is marked as "4 TON" which adds to the deception. Third, the welds were not the most confidence inspiring welds and they greatly vary from one stand to the next. One of my stands has decent straight welds, while the other one looks like it was welded by a drunken man. This leads me to believe that Craftsman's quality control is rather poor. Also, the flat part of the feet that comes into contact with the pavement is lightly tack welded. Time will tell how durable how these will last. Lastly, adding to the deception, my stands came in with a warranty slip for 1 YEAR WARRANTY. Nowhere in the product description is this mentioned. If you click on the linked "PRODUCT WARRANTY", they make it seem that these have lifetime warranty since they do not mention any time frame for the warranty. Being that they are in the "professional" series, I was expecting lifetime warranty. I am only keeping these stands because I got them on sale. Please look elsewhere if they are not on sale; they are not worth the retail price.
