I've used this mulcher 3 times. I've cut a very bumpy 1.2 acre. The mulcher works great. I read other reviews about the discharge block coming off the mower. I believe they installed the rubber strap incorrectly. The stud that the rubber strap connects to should be installed with the stud down and the nut on top. This puts good tension on the discharge block to hold it in place. The mulcher fits Craftsman LT1500, Troybilt pony, and Murray 42" 17.5 HP mowers.
Leaves trails and you have to go back over the yard to blow them into the grass. Really poor fitting deck plug that does not fit well and uses a big rubber strap to not hold it on well. Disappointed.
Blades mulched just fine, but the cover is poorly designed. It keeps coming off. Also, if you run over a pine cone, it will blow the cover off and break the rubber tension strap. You can rig the strap to keep working - there are no spare parts available.
The cover does not stay in place...Poor design!!
The mulch plug fits ok but the strap is a joke! My first one broke within a couple of months so I took it back to Sears and they were nice enough to replace it but said they won't do it again. After my second one broke I decided to figure a solution myself. I took the pin off the strap hooks on, drilled the hole a little bigger, and used a short bungee cord to stretch from that hole to the tab with a hole in it right in front of the plug low on the mower deck. I then mowed my yard and it stayed in place even if pressure was put on it. Hope this helps someone else.
