ALL LAWN TRACTOR DATA SENT TO PHONE VIA BLUETOOTH!!
The whole point of this kit is to provide automated maintenance reminders on your phone, based on the number of hours your lawn mower has been in use. The problem is that the app starts at zero hours as soon as it's installed... even if you have non-zero hours on the lawn mower... and there's no way to fix that. So your maintenance reminders will always be late by whatever number of hours your lawn mower had on it before you installed the kit. In my opinion, that makes it pretty well useless. What good is a reminder if it comes way too late? Secondly, most Craftsmen Lawn Tractors have a maintenance schedule for the engine, and a separate maintenance schedule for the rest of the tractor. The app only gives you maintenance reminders pertaining to the rest of the tractor; it doesn't bother to remind you to do any engine maintenance. In my opinion, that also makes it pretty well useless. What good are reminders if they only cover half of what you need to do? Thirdly, I spent a bit over an hour on the phone being shuffled circularly between oblivious Sears and Craftsman customer care departments... most of whom didn't understand that there is a Craftsman Smart Lawn app, let alone that there might be issues with it... before finally arriving at somebody who spoke sufficient English to understand the problems above and to tell me that they have no solutions for the kit and app as sold today. The customer service side is sadly ignorant and... well... useless. If those things don't turn you off, then you're good to go, because installation was a breeze, and Bluetooth connection was a snap. The app allowed me to scan the serial number tag on the lawn mower and instantly recognized the model of lawn mower in order to install the correct maintenance schedule and parts catalog onto my phone. The software side was smooth, the user interface is sexy and modern, and I had no problem with those things whatsoever. Too bad the whole thing is useless. I had high hopes.
Save your dollars on this contraption as it simply does not work most of the time and I live in a highly connected region of northern Virginia so internet connection is no the issue...it is simply bad programming that does not allow the app to connect to the machine most of the time to record data. A great idea but no one took the time to correctly program the machine to work....too bad...again it is a good idea
Purchased this to work with my new Sears 25581 tractor I had for a day. Instructions was great and installation was a snap. I had already downloaded the app so it connected instantly. I would definitely recommend this for anyone with a Sears tractor. You are able to monitor the oil, air filter, when to replace the blades, battery stats and run time. Great little gadget
Keeps track of engine hours, battery, when to maintain. Requires smart phone app, bluetooth connecttion.
Install was quick, 10 minutes. Very tight. Not much room. Did not give a good snap into place feeling, some dielectric grease might have helped.
Curious as to whether it will still monitor if I forget to connect smart phone or if mower is used when I am not there.
$80 is pricey, sale price $50, got mine for $25 using points.
great concept BUT....there are still flaws. it is better to get a regular digital hour meter install on your mower. the connection was a breeze but after mowing with it, it keeps falling off and turning off mower while mowing. i put tape around it from falling off. now bluetooth does not connect and i'm stuck at 12 minutes of mowing when i probably put in about 4 hours of mowing
