Great for the Price and it has a Kohler!

This mower is great for home lawns not for commercial use. The last mower I owned was about 12 years old and I hope this one lasts just as long if not longer. Pros; The Price, Quality of the material used and how its assembled, the motor being a Kohler and the drive train is a sealed unit so that there are no failures in the hydraulic line in the future. Cons; Reverse Safety is hard to get used to, the front two tires are solid and if they where on a pivot that would make bumps and hills easier to navigate and cut. I would recommend this mower and I would buy it again

sears 54 zero turn mower

bought a sears 54 inch zero turn in march of 2014 3 months into purchase left brake release broke repairman came out order the parts came back made the repair and left me an extra in case it happened again. a month later same problem but on other side. controls do not work together and was told there is no adjustment. went to change the blades after 4 months use and found out the mower is made by M T D for sears only mtd blades fit and they were $90.00 for three blades. less than a year old and had to replace the battery. now when I go to turn sometime it just goes straight and I have to stop and move the handles in and out and then it is ok for a while. already need a new set of blades I mow about 1 and a half acres worst mower I ever owned and will never buy another

Craftsman Quality but not the best

For being a 54" zero-turn it works fine going forward and soft angle turns left and right, but that is it.

It seems physically solidly built but I'll sell it in two years and buy a different one for the following reasons.

1) The gas tank and filling spot on this are a joke. It holds barely 2 gallons of gas and it does not fill all the way to the top. The day I bought it since it needed gas and was on the trailer I went to put gas in it from the pump, MAJOR MISTAKE the way the tank is made and the pressure it creates as liquid goes in caused it to spray back all over me, my car and the ground near the pump as well as all over the mower and seat. Unlike my GT5500 and my 1998 GT that are simple to fill with no issue this being a big mower holds nothing and filling is a pain.

2) Quality of assembly is nothing like Craftsman of old and they will not do anything about it once you put gas in it. for some reason the mower is not squared off, while sitting on a perfectly flat part of my driveway the right front wheel just continually turns while the mower sits idle in place not moving at all. As I'm mowing the yard the wheel constantly turns sideways and tears a groove through the yard since it doesn't roll.

3) Zero-turn yard destruction, anytime you go to use the zero-turn as you would expect to be nice and easy it turns badly and puts a ton of pressure on the rear wheel that is not moving and ruts the yard by tearing the grass out of the ground on the pivot spot, you can attempt to pull back on that wheel to make it turn some while the turn is completed but the problem this mower has is if the wheel happens to be determined to be in reverse for more that 3 seconds it automatically cuts off the PTO. The amount of times this turns off the PTO while mowing in and around trees is aggravating as can be.

Downside about having to write these things about a Craftsman product is I am a devote owner. I own a 1938 Drill press, 1943 table saw, 1958 Radial Saw Combo, 1967 Standalone band saw, as well as tons of newer Hydraulics, hand tools, vices, and my brand new 52" tool rack to go with my two 40". Keep buying Craftsman for the most part just avoid this.

Sears is wonderful with tools but bad with zero turn mowers

First we purchaseda zero turn Mower. Right away it mowed bad, the grass looked feathered and uneven. Many husband had to go over and over the same area to get the grass mowed down. We parked then the Mower and a roof where we started to have oil spots underneath. Sears exchanged the Mower. The second Mower seemed mowing, but a few hours later the grass started to stand up again.
Needless to say that this Mower got returned right away. It took about 2 weeks until the money had been refunded (they were saying 10 business days). We bought a Toro Mower and out mows everything like it should....
