Packaging was adequate. Everything arrived intact and without damage. Delivery was 4h45min after scheduled delivery window. No explanation other than "running behind". Everything went together as per instructions. No missing pieces with the exception of the Craftsman nameplate that is supposed to be on the right side of the front, top rail. None of the 3 rails that were supplied with my workbench had the Craftsman nameplate on them. Whether this is a "one-off" lapse in quality control, or they just don't include that feature anymore, I don't know. Lost opportunity for Sears to advertise a nice looking workbench, and since I consider the Craftsman logo a sign of quality, and want it on the genuine Craftsman products I invest in, I reduced my rating from 5 to 4 stars. Two of 4 leg levelers threaded in with a lot of resistance, so I added a bit of grease to the threads to enable hand-turning. Butcher Block top surface is very attractive, though probably soft. I'll probably cover with Ram Board when I'm working to protect it. If you don't want to be bothered doing that, and don't want to see the Butcher Block surface scratched, gouged, etc., consider the stainless steel top. Overall, looks very good. Went together in less than 1.5h. I also purchased the Craftsman 26 in. Wide 3-Drawer Standard Duty Ball-Bearing Rolling Cabinet, the Craftsman 26 in. Wide 3-Drawer Standard Duty Ball-Bearing Top Chest, and the Craftsman Premium Heavy-Duty Floor Cabinet - All Shelves. Attractive, practical way to organize my shop.
I seek out American made products and Craftsman is the go to place. I purchased the 6' workbench frame, the stainless top and backboard. The components and hardware appear well made and sturdy. That is where my compliments end.
The instructions with the stainless top reqiure you to offset the top at least 1.5" to the rear to avoid the front overhang of the heavy stainless top to tip forward. Sounds fine but you cannot mount the braces for the backboard with the top sticking out 1.5" to the rear, it has to be flush. So now we know these components are not compatible if you mount the top according to instructions.
After returning the backboard I noticed that the display model in the store had the stainless top mounted flush to the back to accomodate the backboard and axtra "display only" kick outs down by the legs to make it stable.
My bench wobbles from the heavy top and the stainless started rusting the next day from a sweaty hand print. Taking it all back. Very disappointed.
I like the work bench it's handy. I use it mostly doing some of the little projects that you need to sit things up for ease of working. I was very frustrated with the first one I bought was defective and I had to take the whole thing back to the store instead of them just sending the part I needed. So I had to suffer because of poor craftsmanship on the manufactures part.
All is working well.
Looks good in the mancave. A bit of time to assemble, do not do without a socket wrench with extension,,,
Attractive sturdy bench. Hard to find that combination for the price. thinking of buying more.
Nice bench, a little tall
