I have enjoyed my craftsman 29cc weedwacker, but it finally gave out. I can't find another one. I do not like the design of the new ones. The crank ropa is inconvenient at the back of the mother. & I can't controll the choke, as it is a button not a switch that I can put in different positions. I wish you would come out with this one again it started with the first or 2nd pull. the new ones takes five six seven pulls to get it going I don't like it at all I love this one.
1). This unit was advertised to be able to use both .110 (red line for smaller jobs) and .130 (black line for heavier duty jobs). It came with a tube of some pre-cut line in both colors. I tried to install the black line and it wouldn't go thru the holes. I used my calipers to measure the black line and it measured at .150. I guess this is a manufacturer defect when they made the holes on the head?? 2). The plastic gas tank is located underneath the engine with no protector on the bottom of it. When starting the unit while on the ground it obviously vibrates which means the plastic tank will be worn or damaged over time. Not a good design! 3). I ordered this online at www.sears.com. It was showing the model number to be #71197. On the same website they have a link you can click on for the Owners Manual. When I clicked on the link it came up to be model #73197, not #71197. Sears needs to correct their website!
I bought this last year at the end of the season. I had a very hard time starting it. Now it only starts if you use starting fluid. I probably have about 10 hours on it and the gears in the shaft are completely worn out. I should have know better when I saw the store was already selling re-manufactured models for half price when I bought this new one. It's still under warranty but it's a hassle to drive in and get it repaired. Poor design, too heavy and awkward to use for any length of time. Once the engine is running, it has plenty of power and the cords are easy to replace. I don't think it is a good product for the money though. The easy start is not user friendly. It should have a universal bit to "drill start" but it requires a 5 sided bit only available through craftsman. It would be better if a regular 6 sided bit like a phillips screwdriver bit turned backwards.
Save your money and buy a different one. This one is a dud.
