I first bought a Troy Bilt trimmer and MTD edger at Lowes. Took them both back because the TB525 4-stroke didn't have enough power for the edger, but the edger was not designed well either (the rubber skirt drags on the wheel, thus the wheel didn't turn easily, an overall mess to operate). Went to Sears and found their 4-cycle trimmer to be identical to the unit I returned at Lowes, but the edger was visually much better designed and higher quality. In the end, I bought the Craftsman edger (and tiller) attachments, but went back to Lowes for a 2-cycle Troy Bilt trimmer. Since Troy Bilt = MTD = Craftsman, I might as well buy the cheaper and lighter unit (and I got bump feed standard on TroyBilt), but I highly recommend the attachments from Sears - they are differentiated.
I'm having an issue attaching the unit to my craftsman gas trimmer. When i remove the string trimmer part the connections do not match the edger attachment. Model 79447. Both are left with male connections.
I purchased this as an attachment to replace a Ryobi edger attachment I had used for over 5 years. This craftsman version lasted only one season. The metal around one of the three holes for the mounting screws broke meaning only two of the three screws can be used. It vibrates too badly to use any more.
This is the 3rd time I have replaced the edger attachment, and this one works real well...........it seems to allow much more debris to be sent backward onto me as the rubber flap is not catching it all. This one fits well on to the Gas trimmer and they work well, overall, together.
