This charger was bought because I changed over to lion batteries. It is capable of nicad or lion. The unit senses what type the battery is. It charged the lion batteries in 20 minutes. The unit and batteries did not get hot. Really like this charger.
this battery charger only lasted 4 months with only occasional use
After all these years of using NiCd batteries from my 18v tools & now the 19.2v C3 line of tools, I will be making the leap to Lithium Ion batteries when my NiCd 19.2v batteries start losing life. In preparation for that time in the near future, I bought this charger to handle the new batteries. Since this charger handles NiCd also, I seem to be set in continuing the use of my C3 line of tools. Hopefully, the C3 line will be around for a long time. This charger is similar in size to my previous C3 charger and aside from the additional status lights, seems to do it's job well. I have no idea if this is any better than the previous charger I have (it would be nice if the charger discharged NiCd batteries before charging them), but it charged up my NiCd quickly. The docs state that after charging the battery, it goes into standby mode to keep the battery topped off until removed, so that's a nice feature. I'm not sure if my previous charger did as well. In any event, I have 2 chargers that can handle the C3 batteries, even if the older one isn't designed to work with Li-ion, I can charge 2 NiCd batteries at once now.
Bought this unit to replace an identical unit that failed shortly after it's warranty expired:(
A fast lithium ion charger with LED indicators that let you know exactly what condition your battery is in.
I had to purchase as my older batteries quit working. Purchased new C3 styles battery and had to update charger, as old one will not work. The new charger works better and faster. The new style batteries are lighter, and more powerful. I am very satisfied.
Right out of the box & charging my batteries!
Charges both lithium-ion and NiCad batteries.
The charger works fine, but I don't think you should have to buy a new 19.2 volt charger because you switch to a 19.2 volt lithium - ion battery. I recommend the charger, but not the fact you have to buy a new one when you have 19.2 volt chargers because the new batteries will not fit in the old chargers.
I was in the market for this item and the only place I could get it was at sears for the price I got it for using my points that I had helped alot thanks to them.
