I found this corner shelving unit to be good, heavy duty stuff. The Black/Gray looks great organized with Gladiator Gear Boxes!!! An otherwise wasted corner is now more functional.
It was NOT the easiest thing I have ever asssembled. Assembly with the unit laying down is much safer than the way recommended in the manual. Once you figure out the process, it took me (us) about 4 hours.
Apart from the directions being incredibly difficult to understand, the parts weren't even labeled correctly. Half the parts were all labeled "C". The parts themselves make assembly even worse. You'll feel like you're cross threading nearly every bolt. I can count on one hand how many bolts when in smoothly. Hours after building it, the shelf is solid and looks great (aside from the parts that came damaged from shipment) I thought about giving a more stars considering it was mainly just the directions that needed to be fixed, but it's such an easy fix for Craftsman to do! It's just lazy not to include better directions and, for that, I give two stars.
The hardware that came with the shelf was not very good, had to use a tap & die to clean thread on fastener
I purchased this to further organize my basement, however I'm not quite impressed with this piece for the price. Unlike other reviews, I did not have issues with damaged parts, "soft" screws, or assembling. Yes, the assembly directions suck, but take a minute to look at them and then your available parts and you should easily figure it out w/o an engineering degree. Addressing the hex screws, they work just fine if you use a hex wrench and DO NOT use a powered driver with a hex bit. Loosely hand tighten all fasteners until you are absolutely certain they are where you want them and everything on the tier you are working on is straight. I assembled this alone by starting with the bottom shelf on its side and then attaching the 5 legs. I then tightened it fully and then stood it up adding each shelf's support bracket before dropping the shelf down between the legs and onto the support brackets. Once completed, it is extremely sturdy and holds a serious amount of weight.
As for my dislikes, there are no adjustable feet to make up for any uneven flooring, and the Craftsman badge on the top shelf is a cheap decal unlike the other Craftsman pieces I own which are more like automotive emblems. These two items are the reason for me only rating this four stars. Other than that, this is a nice storage piece.
Bot the easiest shelf to put together but very useful.
you need at least 2 people to asseble unit. Instructions were the worst I have ever seen. My son-law majored in engineering in college and is now a CPA and it took hom 30 minutes to figure out how to put this together. Parts were missing one screw was missing and I had to order this and it was backordered until October. You need alot of patience. once it was together it looks good and is funtional. Paint scratches easily
